maniac Posted June 20, 2021 Posted June 20, 2021 Something missing here. Shouldn’t be a guaranteed starter anymore. MechEng and Vilander 1 1
Sean Bradley Posted June 20, 2021 Posted June 20, 2021 Ashwin will Nick them lefties off if the fast bowlers cant do it.
maniac Posted June 20, 2021 Author Posted June 20, 2021 India has the resources now that no one and that includes even Ro and Ko or Pant shouldn’t be guarantee starters anymore. Perform or perish. Frustrated 1
Gollum Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 (edited) Expecting a strong comeback tomorrow morning. Never write off champions. Not just Bumrah, if there is one (near) certainty about this bowling unit, it is that there will be a spirited fightback. Plenty of heart out there, except a couple tests since WTC began they have always bounced back after a poor phase of play. And in all conditions. Bumrah wasn’t among wickets in Australia or in the home series. Even IPL he was off color. I know you don’t give a f about IPL but if an international great can’t cash out in IPL then there is an issue. Not writing him off but he is out of form and has been for a while. Let’s hope for the best though. Vilander and beetle 2
MechEng Posted June 21, 2021 Posted June 21, 2021 It shows how bowling the right length consistently is so hard in international cricket. Bumrah definitely does not lack any discipline for preparation, yet he is struggling with length.

It does not matter how many resources you have , core players of the team have to be given long rope.Bumrah is the core player of the team and only bowler who is guranteed starter in all the formats. You have to allow him to overcome his issues.India were 145/3 also so Bumrah still a chance to make a comeback. He is a top class bowling talent. India does not have more Bumrahs waiting in the wing. beetle, express bowling, Vilander and 1 other 1 3
cowboysfan Posted June 22, 2021 Posted June 22, 2021 I dont think Test cricket is for him with his injury history

Most fast bowlers have got far more injuries than Bumrah has till age 27. Check out Lillee, Thomson, Wasim, Waqar, Cummins, Starc, Rabada etc. 's injury history. Bumrah bowled excellently in IPL 2020 in September. Was the 2nd highest wicket taker or something like that. After that, he bowled well in the test series in Australia 2020-21. I think 8 catches were dropped off his bowling in the 3 tests he played ... which is unusually high. He was creating chances regularly. He has not bowled well after that. I think his marriage had distracted him in the England test series and IPL 2021. In this match, he has bowled well in his last 3 overs. Just 8 ordinary overs does not warrant any kind of strong observation. NZ had played 2 tests just before this match and our pacers need a bit of time to acclimatize. Actually under the conditions Siraj is as good as Bumrah if not better. And he has performed every bit to get a long rope . It's a shame that Kohli did not play the bowler most suited to the conditions and who is on the best form.

Bumrah has a long way to go to sit on that same bracket.
Praveen 06 Posted June 22, 2021 Posted June 22, 2021 He is champion bowler. He will comeback strongly express bowling 1

He is already well ahead of starc, rabada etc. He only has Cummins ahead. He Isa champion bowler. He will be back. His attitude is poor. When he fixes his mental issues, he will be back to his best. Otherwise he can quit. We have siraj, prasidh coming through.

He also tampered with the ball
Jay Posted June 22, 2021 Posted June 22, 2021 1 minute ago, Baji-Rao said: clearly you have never bothered playing club cricket in your life or you would realise a red cherry cannot be tampered significantly without a sharp or abrasive object. Pommie bandits who didnt know what reverse swing was until learning the science behind it would usual equate their inability to play as tampering. Dont act like we were in WG Grace or Bradman's era when this was hapenning, the 90s had all the cameras to watch and umpries of neutral countries to observe the balls conditions. If you really believe his whole career passed by without a single umpire objecting, then congratulations to you. Moving forward "his record vs india and australia were trash' doesnt matter, when other bowlers have even worser overall records to different or same countries in comparison to him, which makes him sit high over many on the pecking order regardless. I dont rate bowlers who don't perform vs top sides and arch rivals. He is not a legend. He had a good peak peak 3 years and that he declined as his average would suggest.

He he been going through his lean patch but dude has tasted success too early for a modern pacer. He has 200+ wickets already & is only 26 years of age. He is getting his form back as well. MoTM in recent game in WI. Seems to be getting there after the injury reduced his pace & zip. Bumrah perhaps going through same period that Rabada went through. Let's see how he comes up through it.
Jay Posted June 22, 2021 Posted June 22, 2021 12 minutes ago, Baji-Rao said: thats fine if you dont rate him and thats your choice and its respected, but it comes down to the fact cricket doesn't have many bowlers who eclipse waqar's records which is why regardless he'll pop up on top in many lists. Moreover, you're forgetting his Strike Rate. All formats combined he reigns at the top in bowling history, and Tests and ODI's alone as well individually he is only challenged by a few in the names of Steyn, Akhtar, Rabada and Marshall. I'll suggest you check this stat to see what i mean by Waqar was 'dangerous'. His bowling didn't give out the economy control like his rival Wasim, but he can definitely turn the tide quicker then him to his team's favor. I believe a stat analysis regarding his wicket taking ability against quality opposition was created by some member of pakpassion. He had very poor stats in terms of picking up wickets of quality batsmen in general. Fair enough if you rate him high but to me he was a minnow basher.
