I mean they presumably just get paid a lot more in salary terms?

How much do Australian sportswomen get paid?

It’s impossible to give exact amounts of salaries for female athletes, different sports have different pay arrangements. Some athletes may have personal sponsorships or endorsements on top of these figures.

Women in sport tend to be paid more at the international level than the club level, which is different to how men in sport are paid.

So, this means all wages are approximate.

If you have any updated payment details for women in sport in Australia, please leave a comment below.

Minimum wages of Australian women in sport: international

  • Cricket (Southern Stars) – $75,000
  • Football (Matildas) – $40,000
  • Netball (Diamonds) – No minimum**
  • Rugby League (Jillaroos) – $2,000*
  • Rugby Union 7s (Pearls) – $44,500
  • Rugby Union 15s (Wallaroos) – $1,000*

*Match payment

**Approximately $30,000 for representative players if they play every game in a year

Minimum wages of Australian women in sport: domestic

  • Aussie rules (AFLW) – $16,263
  • Basketball (WNBL) – $13,000
  • Cricket (WBBL) – $26,000
  • Football (W-League) – $16,344
  • Netball (Super Netball) – $33,000
  • Rugby 15s (Super W) – Unpaid
  • Rugby League – (NRLW) – $8,500

Lost to Pakistan in 2018 Asian Games. So yeah best limit to South Asia's kachra level.

Once upon a time we were good, at least for Asian standards, 50-60 years ago lol. We were good in football as well.

Only team sports we have now are cricket and hockey.

We were very good between ~2003-2007 , we made it to the finals of Junior wc losing to Brazil. We actually beat them early rounds

I remember reading that, this team was picked with height as the basic criteria.

No wonder, when the Indian team in Thailand, with an average height of 6 ft 3 in as opposed to the 6 ft 7 in telegraph poles on the other side, beat world champs Brazil in a preliminary match, their head coach Oncken Percy almost fell into a courtside swoon. Who were these guys? Eight of the 12-man team in Thailand is the result of an "experiment" called "Operation Gold" thought up three years ago by the Sports Authority of India (SAI), led by sports scientist Mohan Chaudhari.

The project began with identifying 60 taller-than-average teenagers (minimum height 6 ft 3 in), with basic athletic skill who were trained for months at a go. Unlike teams in the past that drew most of its players from the sport's rich tradition in the south, the current young Indian squad has a larger participation from the north, because height and not heritage had become a starting point.

The Aussie umpire basically assured australia of a medal. Even if aus loses they ll face india in bronze play offs. If india won aussies would have equal chances of losing both sf and bronze play offs afainst germany and belgium.

By this line of reasoning, the Aussies would have a also greater chance of winning gold assuming they get to the final and were to play India.

Not convinced.

For some reason we struggle a lot in Greco-Roman, maybe traditional kushti's limits? GR involves just upper body, can't do this

domination in freestyle is obviously cause kushti translates to freestyle well compared to greco roman.

but with infrastructure and funding can become better at that. way more of a prospect than say swimming or rowing where we are nowhere.

Yes but that makes it one chance for a medal. Beating india. If they lost good chance they may have lost the bronze to germany. So both chances gone. Yeah i know its clutching at emotional straws when already drowned..

What about the Indian team that reached the finals of Asian U23 Championship?  What was the criteria there?  India did beat China Australia & Pakistan to reach finals.

My coach Park Tae Sang has met his family for just 13 days in last one year, says PV Sindhu

Quote

Speaking to the Quint, the champion duo of Sindhu-Sang shared how it had been over a year that the Korean had not visited his family for more than 13 days since February of last year. Park really missed his wife and 3-year-old daughter who asked him to come back to Korea as she wanted to go swimming with daddy. He had been on his coaching duties with Sindhu for more than a year ahead of the build-up to the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

Dedication :hatsoff:

People talking about biased umpiring/refereeing. Well I was talking about that a few days ago where I saw that an American and Nigerian athlete had two false starts but only the Nigerian one was removed. In Olympics, it’s not about racism but bias against smaller countries

The nigerian was removed because the person doing second and last false start gets disqualified. Only one false start is tolerated . Problem with you is you speak nonsense without knowing facts. Yesterday you said swimming is a team sport. So please speak if you know or else keep shut. Dont peddle utter crap.

The rule states that only one false start per race is allowed without the disqualification of the athlete(s) making the false start. Any athlete(s) making further false starts in the race shall be disqualified.
