Tokyo 2020 Paralympics: Record 19 medals thus far!!!! Amazing

Just to put some perspective.. GB had one gold medal in 1996 Atlanta.. and now look at them. There was funding issues in the UK for sport and the medals correlated to this. Once the national lottery started to fund sports there is an improvement in results which is there for all to see.

 

people talk about funding and infrastructure.. athletes in western countries are not professional in the chosen sport: they are common folk like us but the only difference is they are sustained by their sponsors while they practice hard to compete and they deliver medals. Even after winning multiple golds they don’t become superstars.. they go back to their own lives.

We trashed them last in World cup :). Hammered the hell out of them in the Asia cup twice too , winning by 9 wickets. 
 

Then We trashed his mooh bola country in Brisbane. We also won the t20 series there. 
 

Yes we also took some Aussie expertise in Sports. His name was Guru Greg Chappell. We all know how it ended.

Who tf is arguing if India beat Australia in cricket? Are you seriously arguing thay Australia aren't Light years ahead of India in terms of sporting infrastructure and achievements?

And drugs. Lots of peds. Advanced peds are instrumental for success in Olympics. Most Olympians cheat. It's not new. They just have designer drugs that prevent them from getting caught.

You didnt get the gist. Read through the other posts. I very well know we are million miles away from Australia which is twice our size in land area but 1/20th in population and its part of oecd. Discussion was about some something else..

I think the GB lesson is very good. Went from 1 gold medal in 1996 finishing 36th to finish 2nd in 2016 with 27 odd golds. All through setting up a proper system and funding. 

 

They have a central authority that decides funding and using highly-skilled data techniques to work out which medals are worthwhile to pursue vs costs.

Exactly..  India needs funding & infrastructure to get things moving.  Kids will only get interested when they know there is something to help them out there. 

Of course any of this is unlikely to happen & we will continue to rely on individual brilliance rather than a robust effective structure.

Aware of GBR's Atlanta disaster (1 gold, total 15 medals) and the national lottery scheme.

 

But 1996 was more of an outlier, GBR was always good at the games with multiple disciplines in which they were always among the best for many decades before Atlanta. Mostly a top 10 team, due to generous funding for London Games they have been punching above their weight: in 2008, 2012, 2016, maybe this time as well. But we are talking about a team which used to win 20-40 medals even before Atlanta. Also now their immigrant population is giving a big boost especially in boxing and track/field events....Not just Mo Farah, Nicola Adams even likes of Jessica Ennis and KJ Thompson are half-black, whatever said and done genetics does help (in some events, not all) and without blacks even USA will struggle to finish so high. Look at these gulf countries who purchase athletes from Africa and do so well in Asian Games....same idea being repeated by French football federation to great success. 

 

India must first settle in on a few disciplines (relatively cheap, accessible for more from a young age) which guarantee medals: wrestling is the only sport now. Shooting will always be a Richie Rich sport here, but invest equivalent amount in weightlifting (in Tokyo 14 medal events!!!!!!) and you'll have a huge body of high potential participants. South Korea should be the model, similarly placed to India till 70s and then in anticipation of Seoul 1998, they started channeling all their energies to own a few disciplines like archery, judo, taekwondo etc.  Unlike GBR we are never going to be contenders in track, swimming, diving, cycling, rowing, sailing etc. for a variety of reasons. GBR also has proper sports culture for over 100 years now, well oiled machinery, professional league/club system even in less popular sports, viable career option....OTOH South Korea before the Seoul bid was like today's India.

Good chance for Pooja. She just needs to win two matches to win bronze ala Mary Kom. Exactly like Lovelina. Direct round of 16 entry. 16– 8– 4 ( medal Guaranteed).

 

Ichrak Chaib whom Pooja will face is 20 years old. Nothing fancy. She was 9th in world Youth championships. So Pooja just needs to hold her nerves.. good chance ..
 

Boxing is The only sport where you get a guaranteed medal if you reach semi final to ensure its fair to everyone..

 

trivia: The match for 3rd place in boxing was eliminated for the 1952 Olympics. Originally, this also meant the elimination of bronze medals in the sport, but this decision was later reversed, and the losing semi-finalists finally received their medals in 1970.
