Why Does Rahane Play Cricket?

He looks so frightened, meek and submissive every time he comes out to bat. Body language is as if he has given up already. The opposing team know they will get him out quickly so don't need to tinker around with fields or do anything special.

 

Seems to have no passion or desire. Does not appear to be driven to succeed by either personal records or team goals. Whatever "talent" he had appears long gone.

 

He seems to hate it out there so the question is why does he play the sport?

 

• Has he been pushed into cricket by outside pressures? 

 

• Does he have eye watering bills to pay ala Amit Mishra's hair transplant costs?

 

• Has comprising pictures or dirt on management and selectors? 

 

Just at a loss as to why Rahane continues to play cricket when there are so many other things he could do and enjoy with his time.

most people would continue to play for the paychecks if nothing else. it's no diff than doing a job that one does not want to do, but which pays well. now, one could say that he can retire, but the professional life of sportspersons is short and they want to maximize incomes.

Looking at his body language, one would think that he is paying the BCCI large sums of money to play, not vice versa. With such wretched batting form, the honorable thing to do would be to retire or find some reason to take a break. I wonder why he doesn't do that. He is long past the grace period and is now an acute embarrassment to even the cricket viewing public.

This is a person, who, not that long ago, led India to its best ever series win. The comeback began with him leading from the front with that hundred in Melbourne. A guy who is playing, solely to pay bills, does not do that. He cares about the game and the team he represents. Having said that, his performances have been bad for long stretches. As a player, he believes he can get out of those slumps. It is the job of the selectors to send him back to domestic cricket and have him work out his problems there. But I would not worry too much about his motives.

ICF should start some sort of fund raising campaign for this Malnourished guy.  Maybe he becomes a Man and starts scoring after eating healthy nutritious diet.   LOL.

Hes still playing because he's from the lobby and backed by chewtiya Captain. The coach if from the lobby too, the captain and coach think that Indian cricket is their Baap ki Jaagir, with zero accountability and backing their personal favorites.

Bro, I dislike Rahane as much as anyone here but let's not make fun of someone's 'malnourishment'. Millions of Indians suffer from it due to poverty. Not a laughing matter.

Because he lost out on his greatest career opportunity when he was refused the starring role in the ‘how can she slap’ video.

 

After that he had no choices left but to join the Indian middle order.
