vvvslaxman Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 He ended up with 101 wickets same as Bumrah but at an average of 33. No matter how many yorker specialist come, there is always only one Malinga. It is surprising he didn't have a half decent test career. Look at the fat malinga nailing 4 N batsmen in 4 balls with amazing accuracy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nclPaVQmCHc&ab_channel=SriLankaCricket SRT100 1
rkt.india Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 Malinga was completely a different bowler to Bumrah. Bumrah is nowhere as good as Malinga in terms of Yorkers. In test cricket, how well you bowl in the corridor matters along with bounce. Malinga low arm bowler, low bounce, not as accurate and very short.
Lone Wolf Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 Malinga used to get late swing against left handers & was lethal. But he lacked the skill to bowl in corridor consistently. In Shorter format it is different dude was a beast in his prime. SRT100 1
puneet28 Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 Bumrah is the more intelligent bowler. Malinga relied more on yorker, unorthodox action and lower height of arm. On the other hand, Bumrah uses yorker occasionally. He is a thinking bowler. I must say that he is the most intelligent bowler we have had in last 2 decades.Sent from my SM-G973F using Tapatalk raki05 1
Serpico Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 He gave up on test cricket too soon at 27. With more experience and better bowling pitches in next decade, he would have been a good asset outside Lanka
ShoonyaSifar Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 Malinga never had a good FC record, Bumrah came into international cricket with a sub-25 bowling average. Bumrah is a better bowler across formats, Mallinga was however more clutch in LOIs. raki05 1
speedheat Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 Malinga struggled to get the bounce off good length. Unlike bumrah he was a very low bounce bowler. Also he had serious injuries. raki05 1

He played from 2004-2010. Look at the batsmen we had at that time. Punter, Kallis, Hayden, Tendulkar, Dravid, Sehwag, KP, Smith, Cook, Hussey, Gambhir, Amla, Younis, Chanders, Clarke, Moyo, Gily, Gibbs,. etc. Edited September 14, 2021 by vvvslaxman SRT100 1

More than that the pitches & DRS, you could very well argue that today's batters on flat pitches & no DRS would've smoked him even more on many of those dead tracks Jay 1

Fab 4 is now Fab 3 lol. Babar is catching up. OUtside this we hardly have any good batsmen. Guy like Rahane would have never found a spot in the MO. Ishant's average is testimony lol Career average 32.22. Since 2010 31.22. Since 2016 - 23.69.
express bowling Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 Bumrah and Malinga have completely different bowling styles. Bumrah has a high arm action and hits the pitch very hard. Is a master of bowling accurate deliveries of different lengths at high pace, whenever he wants to. He has the bowling style succeed on different kinds of pitches and conditions. Malinga's speciality was his skiddy quick deliveries from a rather low release point. Such pacers rarely do that well on bouncier tracks. But he did not do well in Asia either, probably due to his lack of accuracy in test matches. BacktoCricaddict, sandeep, SRT100 and 2 others 1 4

Jeez Quality of batsmen has seriously gone down.. Cook even now is smoking runs in County.. While youngsta beauties still failing around. Even Sanga had a decent run after retirement in County. All round batters are difficult to find these days.

Quality of bowling has gone up. All the way up. That makes batsmen look better than they are. Either way if you put sachu bhai and say laxman and dravid with current bowling attack of india, they would annihilate every team left right and centre. Our current batsmen middle 3 are beyond hopeless. In their prices they were good however.

I would have Malinga at his peak for a white ball final. Bumrah has been great for India, but Malinga at his peak was breathtaking, his yorkers at speed and on target are almost unplayable. Malinga also bowled to far superior batsmen IMO compared to Bumrah.
Jay Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 Lol the great Aussie attack struggled vs our 08 weak bowling attack. Imagine if bumrah and co unleashed their skills on them. Bloodbath.

It has taken the reverse swing out of the equation. Bumrah Shami would be very lethal with an older ball in ODIs. In ODIs these days either you are a left armer like Boult or generate both swing & bounce like Hazelwood only then you end up picking wickets. T20s Bumrah is a beast as he is harder to hit. His low economy rate always makes him a match winner. That being said Malinga in his prime was Treat to watch in ODI & T20. SRT100 1
Khota Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 Bumrah is a beneficiary of Indian system. He has great surrounding cast around him and the pressure on the opposition is relentless. Anyone who thinks the Indian pace attack in england was not the best in cricket history is delusional.
