Rahul to captain in NZ t20 series while seniors are rested

Rahul did well in tests recently so I will forgive him. He is still a special talent in tests. He should never open in any format though. He is perfect for middle order in all formats. He has poor body language. He looks meek. Lacks that aura. Not my captain. We need someone dynamic. Pant or ashwin who is a born fighter are good choices. 

 

Ashwin has the makings of an astute captain. Even bumrah would be a fine choice but pace bowlers never get the chance so I guess it will have to be one of the former.

Rahul is the right choice. He is getting a beating before his first day on the job. Give the guy a chance. He has carried his IPL side even though the owners run an absolutely nutty outfit. And he, like his soon to be coach, is willing to open, go in the middle order, keep wickets.. do whatever is needed to get his team to work. Like the rest, he has had a bad World Cup. But overall, he is capable of scoring plenty, and quickly. He definitely has the chance to do well. As far as younger guys go, first we need to get them some playing time first before any of them would be ready to lead.

Any captain we appoint now, is a stopgap solution for next 2 years.. Even KLR might not have a shelf life beyond 3-4 years... Only Pant might captain more than that

his team in IPL has taken choking to a whole new level, and some of their chokes were initiated by KLR himself. moreover, he has consistently gone missing as a batsman when playing in KO matches in the ind side. lots of red signals already.

Why not choose a young captain who can actually be a good captain in the long run !!

They should try out Bumrah for captain and Pant as vice captain.

Bumrah should focus more on tests. Play T20s in IPL and world cups. 

 

Reduce his workload where possible.

He has also kept them in games that they would have lost comprehensively. Besides,  one can’t find a player who doesn’t have flaws in his record. Unless of course you can convince God to take a break from his work to lead your cricket side.

What? KL is Punjab captain and has consistently been among top scorers in IPL. So captaincy doesn't burden him.

What was punjab performance ...they are even bigger choker than current Indian team. Highest scorer doesn't make a jack if you are walking wkt in icc tournaments.

Even Pandya has more impactful innings in his career.

Rahul has the best SR in T20Is among Indians, healthy average, it doesn't happen with playing impactful innings. Two 100s as well.

He is not made captain for an ICC tournament.

I was talking about his overall credentials as I feel now he is seen as a captain for long term. He is not in the test team, still on and off in ODIs. T20s he is good but that alone is not enough I feel. 

Someone like Pant who is more or less permanent in all 3 formats of the games is a better choice for long term grooming.
