Dearth Of Power Hitters in the Country -For Australia WCT20 Oct 22

I was trying to make up a playing XI for the next World Cup T 20 to be held in Australia, and Shockingly I just couldn't come up with a balanced T20 XI without Hardik Pandya in the Playing XI. We really don't have some one who can bowl 4 overs and smack a few late in the order, this is really a worrying sign. 

 

My Squad without Pandya for now.

 

Prithvi Shaw - Opener

Dev Padikkal - Opener

Ruturaj GaIkwad - No.3

KL Rahul - (Capt) MO

Venkatesh Iyer -MO (Power Hitter)

Ishan Kishan - WK (Power Hitter)

All Rounder Power Hitter ??

Bishnoi - (Needs a look in)

None of the players you have listed are power hitters. If Ishan Kishan is called power hitter then it would take another century to win T20 world cup.

There is none available.India will go as far as their top order takes them. The moment they fail this team will also fail as is the case since 2011.

 

Someone was saying it is shameful that we cannot produce good t20 team even though we have IPL. IPL will not create talent, it might harness it.

Padikkal, Gaikwad aren't fit for T20 cricket. You need openers who can make use of PP. Shaw is one that option.

Ishan Kishan and Venky Iyer are the closest to what we have as power hitters for now, both have aggressive intent, they can be groomed for the role.

Wasn't Gaikwad the Orange Cap holder of the IPL 2021, suddenly he' us not fit enough for Intl T20? I hope you are kidding. Padikkal was rated as the next best thing to happen to Indian Cricket after Yuvi by the Pandits. I am sure there is potential there, need to groom them.

Hoow about Abhishek Sharma for the role of a finisher? He can bowl 4 overs of spin as well.

 

Sure, he is no big hitter like SDP. But he is a bright young cricketer.

Considering that the World Cup is in Australia, 2 spinners in the playing XI would be a luxury.

True. Even in Aus, we are almost certain to have balance issues with the team combination. As thing stand, we should either bat very very well and bowl well, no exceptions.

Didn't Ishan Kishan play in this world cup? Did he do anything great? 

 

To become a good power hitter, you need some brute force with ability play shots atleast  in 180 degrees arc. Dhoni and Pandya stink as power hitters beccause their arc of hitting is so small.Bowlers can easily control them.They can hit only mistakes but if bowlers execute their delivery these two could be easily controlled. 

 

The two you mentioned don't have the range of shots which guys like Rahul has but if they want to become that finishers they have to play in that role in domestic cricket too.

Just played one or 2 matches if I am not mistaken, needs to be persisted and groomed for the role, he has the potential and above all, an aggressive intent to hit the bowler out of the park every time I see him, that intent in him should be utilised and channeled properly.

ISHAN was good in warmup. He gets only one game against NZ, played a good shot unfortunately straight to fielder. How has he done bad?

Actually Matthew Wade played as an opener in T20Is vs India & NZ in 2020...  We all saw what he did last night. 

Kishan is a similar case although Wade is a veteran. 

But if he is groomed for that role then why not?  We did saw a Glimpse of what he can do in Sri lanka in middle order when both Pandya bros were struggling to time the ball on a slow pitch.

Nobody said he has done bad,But he has played in top order mostly. India is not having issues with top order bating.

Paddikal - No. Gaikwad - A huge Yes. Whatever little I have seen of him, he can go big. In fact he is a better hitter among Gill, Paddikal. Shaw can if he is given the license. He can hit lots of 4's

India is having issues with top order batting. If they showed more intent and scored more, it would be good. Have you been watching this shitty ass t20 team for more than a decade now? Our openers have always been bad. We got saved because of yuvi and then Kohli in 2016.

How many runs did top order score for Australia yesterday. It is the ability of lower middle order which determines most T20s. Could Indian top order be more agressive yes but they know if they fail there is no batting to follow.Did Anybody stop Pandya from scoring like Wade or Neesham.

 

Stop making issue when there is no issue.
