Raising legal age of marriage for women: the law, the reasons and the criticism

Seems like the burden of reform and progression is on one community again. What kind of country cannot even impose a law uniformly ?

1) This had to be aligned with uniform civil code. No law in this country should be based on religious identity. 
2) One should be wary of amount of govt interference and influence. There is a social evil here to curb, but if 18+ can be considered age of consent, then why not marriage for some folks.

I'm generally speaking not in favor of the 'nanny' state, and given the social milieu of rural India, this is a bit over-ambitious and ill-fitting.  

 

This type of rule is more likely to just promote rule-evasion, especially in the population segments it is primarily targeted at.  

 

I'm still unclear on what exact problem this is aimed at resolving. 

 

Urban Indians with higher levels of education anyway are doing this already on their own.

I read somewhere that underage girls giving birth to babies are bound to be malnourished and stunted. Then again, if it is not done to all, how is it serving?

So in a nutshell he is admitting as a Muslim if a daughter is in the house after the age of 16, he can have sexual thoughts about her? So to prevent that they need to get married off early? I don’t think anyone can object if my analysis of this shows muslim

This is good. This will give girls enough time to have education that can enable them to work outside home if they need to .

Counterproductive, pushes the conservative people to get their daughters married ASAP. 

 

Such laws are meaningless without enforcement and particularly mindset changes. 

 

First get the people to follow the 18 years legal age.

People in their frustration are able to indulge in incest and rape of small girls. Even in the West, there are cases of incest present (from daughters and nieces etc.). 

Nevertheless, Islamic society is prone to be a lot more frustrated than the Non-Muslim societies, and thus incest with small girls secretly is their on of the option.

 

Pakistanis are not only Nr. 1 in Porn Search, but they are no. 1 in the Incest Related Porn Search

Pakistani Minister:  82% of the raped small girls told that they were raped by Chacha, Taya, Mamun, Brother, Father, Cousin 

 

Rape of small girls is more likely than of an adult girl. Thus, if the age of a Muslim girl is increased to 18 (or 21), then she is less likely to be raped by the father/brother.

Then problem should be fixed. None of this is girls fault. She should be protected. Rapist should be reported and punished. They do it because they know they can get away with it. If they cannot control then all such frustrated men should be kicked out of the house when girl gets 14-15. Frustrated male member should only return to family after the girl is married at the age of 21 or later.
