Rahane seems to be in good space: Dravid

Actually I don't believe that Rahane's selection is odd at all. Considering the fact that India has such a terrible track record of batters who can play abroad. We have had many many FTBs found wanting abroad. 

 

Dravid and Kohli too know this. As bad as Rahane's form is, he s rare breed that has shown technique and temperament to score abroad. He is given long rope simply on his success abroad which is goldust for India. 

 

So when choice comes to Shreyas who has iffy technique and Rahane who has iffy form, the choice is clear. They will go with past record abroad. Let's assume that Shreyas was thrown in and found out in these conditions. Then we have both Shreyas and Rahane under low morale. Now Shreyas knows his time is coming and Rahane shows his value. Shreyas will just benefit a lot by being with this group.

Rahane is an expert at one outstanding innings per series/false dawn. Of late he has been under fire because he failed to do even that.

I think if we care for Indian crickets best interest, if Rahul Dravid boosts Rahane's technique and career, it will be good for Indian cricket. India also need a captaincy alternative to Rat. So if he delivers more consistently then why not.

Not a bad time to have an extended run in the home series.

 

Back in 2013/2014 Rahane was fighting for his place and needed to deliver in Sa. He delivered.

rahane seals his spot with another 40 after failing multiple times. earlier mumbai mafia lobby would not settle for anything less that 100. now 40 will suffice. we have low standards for international batting these days. last time i saw a stat here where hahane avgs in the low 20s for some year slightly ahead of ashwin
