INDIA VS SA 3rd ODI

33.2Jayant Yadav to van der Dussen, no run, dropped! 95kph, van der Dussen reverse-sweeps and it goes off the bat-face. Pant fails to catch it. His gloves were nowhere close to the ball and it hit the keeper's thigh

16.1 Jayant Yadav to van der Dussen, no run, was there an edge? The reactions suggest there might've been and Pant has failed to hang on. Oh yes, definite edge. Full outside off, there's a slight deflection as Rassie looks to steer through point and it hits Pant on the fingertips

India vs South Africa 2nd ODI

21.1 Thakur to de kock, no run, what happened there? Half-a-chance and no luck for India. de kock swings to leg and it brushes the glove and falls just over the bails, Pant could've caught that too but fails to. Thakur has his hands on his head.

it looks like anti-pant brigade is out in force thanks to the few errors he has made. his keeping and batting still require some polish perhaps, but it's sad to see people going after one of our most clutch players in past couple of yrs

I watched the match, and tbh he had a very poor day behind stumps

not gonna deny that. as a pure keeper, no one is saying that he's Ian Healey (for pace) or Prasanna Jayawardene (for spin). needs to work more on fitness, which is letting him down as much as some technical errors.

I like pant, but he needs to trim down, amd stop saying easy easy because he wants to ball lobbed back to him.  It irritates me, and fielders should be getting to ball back in hard and with intent over the stumps.  It will breed somen intenseness in our fielding.

i will not talk on keeping but his moronic shot selection needs to be called out. Everytime, he steps out he looses his ballance reminds me of srinath batting ....He has only one shot to release pressure which is steps out and throw the kitchen sink.

Agree.. What made him step out the very first ball, I'll never know. Perhaps nature's call

He plays one sensible innings and then plays an Afridi like shot in the next innings. Someone should sit down and have a chat with him.. Be aggressive but sometimes just hold yourself until you realise what the pitch is doing

Wonder if it has something to do with chasing. He almost always fails while chasing. Averaging 50 while batting first. But 15 while chasing.  Second of all in the last match he scored 61 out of 85 against spinners. Didn't face a single ball from Ngidi. Score off of other bowlers. He hasn't mastered the art of constructing an innings in LOI.   One of the main reason for these desperate hoicks is he is unable to rotate strike. Jayasuriya, Sehwag, Warner, GIlchrist were all great examples of rotating strike. If a bowler bowls 5 good balls and if you can't take singles of first 4 balls you could try something silly.

But have some match awareness for once... Yesterday he could milk overs of Maharaj and Markram for fun but choose to go for a hoick first ball he faced from a seam bowler. He should bat the way he does in Test matches in ODIs too for the first 15 balls (would still bat at a higher SR than our seniors)

Again some random names as usual. Comparing openers with a middle order batsman!

Despite that after 21 ODIs

Pant: 630 runs@33, SR 113, 4 50s

Jayasurya: 175 runs@9, SR of 56, 0 50s

Sehwag:  425 runs@27, SR 104

Warner: 716 runs@34, SR 86

Gilchirst: 485 runs@30, SR of 79

With all their brilliance and pant not knowing how to construct an innings, looks like they were all inferior to him! Let's see a quick shifting of goalposts now.

Pant is obviously the best Indian cricketer but yesterday that shot was suicidal and no you can't equalize that to intent.

Jayasuriya was also criticised a lot for his inconsistency so there's no problem in people criticising Pant.

He hasn't yet made his mark in LOIs, especially considering what he is capable of, in t20s he has been downright pathetic and in ODIs he does not have much to show as of now but obviously he will improve.

Missed the hot take above.

Even a casual watcher of the game can notice that one of Pant's greatest strength is ability to manipulate field and rotate strike.

But I should go easy because residing 2 feet up Ashwin's ass day in and day out is bound to have repercussions.

Pant is probably the worst runner between the wickets operating in cricket and relies on boundaries mostly to break the shackles of dots,  next time keep the doritos packet on your pot belly in such an angle that your television view is not obstructed.
