In terms of batting ability Thakur Chahar Bhuvi (in white ball at 3, in test will go at 2) PK Even Harshal has got very decent batting ability n they all are good to bat at 8, thakur can got at 7 against certain kind of attacks or with improvement baaki anyone thinking of making them replacing pandya the batsman shud immediately trash that thought

He averages more than Chahar in both furst class and List A and that too at a significantly better strike rate. Chahar has played 2 really good innings recently when he got the chance (vs Sa and vs Sl) but I think people are expecting too much from him just bcoz of these 2 innings. Also he has scored a total of 79 runs in IPL, he is not an allrounder in any manner. Edited February 6, 2022 by Adamant

Fc avg anyways shudnt be taken srsly Also s/r high hoga, he is a lappebaaz he wont wait around he slog or get out. Chahar will grind out if needed, chahar power game is better then bk but not pk, thakur or harshal but as overall batsman he was better then PK for sure Quote Chahar has played 2 really good innings recently when he got the chance (vs Sa and vs Sl) but I think people are expecting too much from him just bcoz of these 2 innings. thats desperation for an all rounder, ppl want to find an all rounder in anyone remeber their was a thread of iyer as 6th bowler, coz we lack 6th bowler so ppl want to find answers from somewhere . That desperation always leads to wrong answers. Im sure harshal will also play few blinders n ppl will call him all rounder (save this it will happen for sure, ull see him being hyped as better then pandya or thakur ) Reality is thakur, chahar, harshal all are bowlers who can bat , they ll all play few knock on their day and ppl will jizz. Guys like Zak, bhajji also played some good knocks IF we had rabadaa cummins fir to pata nhin kya hota , coz they also have very decent batting ability Edited February 6, 2022 by Ankit_sharma03

U give him flat deck, small grounds....he ll leak leak n leak . That his why his eco is so so so high unfortunately we dnt have a guy who adds edge with ball in almost all conditions n can bat Adamant 1

Shardul has scored 53 runs in IPL, lesser than Deepak Chahar 79 runs at much lesser SR of 112.8 as compared to Deepak Chahar SR138.6 Their List A and First class batting stats are almost similar.. infact Chahar has slightly batting average.Thakur has played a few good innings in Tests but Chahar hasn't played any tests at all so we cannot compare in tests. How is Shardul much much better batsman than Chahar? Both haven't played much to make such a confident statement. Neither Shardul nor Chahar are allrounders. Edited February 6, 2022 by Pollack
express bowling Posted February 6, 2022 Posted February 6, 2022 Deepak's main discipline ... bowling ... is below par except his first 2 overs. All these bits and pieces players can only be stop gap arrangements till a pacer who can bat is found. Adamant 1

Death bowling, dependant primarily on slower balls, lasts till the novelty factor lasts. A combination of attacking quick yorkers, defensive yorkers, hard length balls, quick bouncers and slower balls is needed. If they have to play one of shardul/chahar, should play Chahar who is a better bowler as a third seamer, can at least be effective with new ball.

Even his upfront swing at 120 clicks will bomb when he plays the big boys in big tournaments. His List A record screams his absolute lack of ability if people are willing to pay attention. Pay attention to his career trend instead of his performance here and there to extrapolate. Trend is your friend. He bowls around 135, not 120. And my post is comparing Shardul and Thakur. If they have to play one of the two then play Chahar.
Majestic Posted February 6, 2022 Posted February 6, 2022 In LOIs, Deepak is comfortably the best option India have at no.8. You cannot afford to pick 4 tailenders. Modern ODI cricket don't allow that. DC is a wicket taker, a very good ball striker as well as a capable finisher under pressure down the order. The simple standard protocol of picking XI is balance. a)Two genuine pacers who bowl close to 140. Options available- Bumrah, Siraj, Prasidh, Shami b)One seam bowling A/R. Options - Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur. That's your three pacers and in India, you can do with three other spin options if Pandya is unavailable.

Thakur should not be an automatic choice. Competition is always good. Thakur and D. Chahar are similar players (swing bowlers with excellent lower-order hitting skills) and must push each other.

The tournament is in India. We need batsmen who can bowl spin, like Yuvi and Raina and Sachin and Sehwag in 2011. Since we don't have batsmen who can bowl, we should look for spin AR. And thankfully we have a bucketload of them. Sundar, Axar, and even Jaddu and possibly Hooda are the perfect cattle to work with. Secondly, we would be playing at home in India. Our batsmen own bowling attacks with their eyes closed and if they need the extra padding of a pacer who can also bat at number 8, then shame on them. You've lost it before the tournament even begins. The winning combination for India at home should be batsmen from 1-6; spin AR at 7 and 8; 3 quicks We would still need three frontline quicks especially with dew affecting the games.

Jadeja and Axar are similar type bowlers so they won't play together. Axar and Sundar is a poor choice for those two spots as you need a better striker of the bowl and their IPL strike rates over last two years are poor which suggests there is a lot of scope for improvement in hitting skills for them. Rest of the guys like Ashwin, Kulcha and Rahul etc are not competent no.8. This means India have to look for better batting/hitting options and that is where Deepak Chahar and Shardul come in discussion. These two are the only legitimate choices for that spot and Deepak is a better LOI bowler than Shardul so should be given a regular run as he has performed in limited chances itself.

For a no.8 in ODIs, two scores of 60 in such limited chances is already more than enough to deserve a consistent run. Obviously he is not seen as a top 6 batsman so 50s regularly won't come. 6-7 fifties in 100 ODI matches is good enough for a no.7. DC has two fifties in like 4-5 ODI innings he batted. Guys like Sundar and Axar don't have a fifty in any limited overs format- ODI, T20 or IPL. Edited February 6, 2022 by Majestic
AKane Posted February 6, 2022 Posted February 6, 2022 Thakur has lost a lot of pace over the last year. At his height of 5-7 odd he needs pace. For the sake of improving his supposed batting skills - he seems to have lost his bowling skills. On his way to Irfan Pathan II. Don't know who is advising Thakur.,..... express bowling 1
