You play specialist bowlers and they won't take wickets every time. When they don't take wickets, they won't contribute with bat either and after 3-4 years, their pace will be down too. Ofcourse the main point here is to pick wicket takers but also need to have depth in batting. The so called 140 KPh pacers who cannot bat start losing their pace after 2-3 years of cricket and then they become hard to get dropped too as they become an integral part of side. So, don't cost your batting due to pace obsession. Ofcourse, the said players should be good in their first facet. You need 140 bowlers but someone who can also swing the ball up front in high 130s ot low 140s. Suhaan 1

We need bowlers who take wickets, irrespective of pace We have been doing well whatever little good in cricket due to pace Our loi attack has mostly been trundler dominated, what is your point? Bhuvi is done and dusted. He should retire. What we need are bowlers who are genuine wicket takers. Bumrah at the moment isn't one of them and in a full strength team, he is an automatic pick because he is the best defensive bowler in the world. This means the second pacer should be a proper wicket taker. The third pacer should also be a wicket taker but we also need a competent bat who is a good striker of the bowl. The two obvious names for 2nd and 3rd pacer are Siraj and Deepak Chahar. Prasidh or Avesh can come only in place of Siraj or Bumrah. The third pacer/seamer should be Deepak Chahar because he is a better bowler than Thakur. Edited February 8, 2022 by Majestic Banton 1
Throwaib_Chuckter Posted February 8, 2022 Posted February 8, 2022 A few things that stuck out like sore thumbs for me: Not playing swing bowlers who bowl a fuller length in swinging conditions. Bowlers bowling short of good length with the new ball in swinging conditions. Chahal's line hovering mostly around middle and leg or leg stump Shardul and Umesh not keeping things tight. It is better we preserve such players for test cricket or use them sparingly on ODIs on a rotational basis. We need more of Chahar/Thakur type bowlers and ideally, 1-2 batsmen(proper, specialist batsmen - not bits and pieces) who are good enough to bowl 3-4 overs per match in case a regular bowler is having a bad day. Venky Iyer in theory is one such player, but wasted the 2 ODI batting opportunities that came his way, and the captain didn't show much confidence in his bowling either. Our LOI mindset is outdate while other teams are galloping past us with fresh ideas and players.

It is seen in treatment of Shami who takes wicket even if expensive Need a left arm option too. They usually strike if they can bring ball in to RHB ill take hi eco in ODI not t20 , TM hasnt understood he was always a better bowler then bhuvi in ODI About eco- its ok, bad eco is what u get with umesh n thakur

AKane Posted February 8, 2022 Posted February 8, 2022 Bumrah needs to change his walk-up. He needs some more waddle-up. Right now it is 70 percent walk-up and 30 percent waddle-up. Maybe he can make it 50-50. Does he look so tired bowling in IPL too? I don't watch much of IPL. Does he get wickets at start for the Mumbai team?
AKane Posted February 8, 2022 Posted February 8, 2022 Nobody remembers anything except wins. The whole goal should be winning WC - making semi in 2019 or final in 2003 is immaterial. As Rafael Nadal said - only the titles count. Honestly I don't think we can win the WC with an attack of Bumrah, Shami/Prasidh, Chahar, Jadeja, Axar/Chahal/whoever ... even in India. One of QF/SF/Final these guys will be taken to the cleaners and then our batsmen will do what they do. One of QF/SF/Final will be a 100+ opening partnership and at that point the fat lady might as well sing.
ShoonyaSifar Posted February 8, 2022 Posted February 8, 2022 The entire LOI approach has been ultra defensive - in both batting and bowling. What else explains Ashwin being recalled to the LOI side or the top 3 continuing to play exactly the same way as they did back in 2013-14. At least during earlier years, they could hit big 100s in bilaterals. Now they hog most of the batting in initial overs, bat with a safety first approach, hit a personal milestone at 80-85 SR and get out. These useless 50s do not help especially on sluggish pitches like in SA where batting got tougher vs old ball. In bowling, Ashwin, Jadeja, Chahal all can hardly pick wickets on pitches which do not offer turn, Bhuvi has lost his swing but TM considers him undropabble, young pacers have zero security, one poor match and they get dropped. Worst is to see the drop in the pace of those who can bowl quick. The mantra seems to be safety first defensive bowling. Hopefully our young pacers get these 6 LOIs and they decide to go flat out. It's their opportunity to push the seniors out. AKane 1

Does he get wickets at start for the Mumbai team? Except for 2020 IPL, he hasn't really been a wicket taker for MI. His biggest contribution has been in closing out matches from tough situations bowling 2 brilliant overs at the death, getting a set batsman out by beating him for pace. Couldn't do much of this in 2021 season. I hope he plays a couple of Ranji matches. Could help him get into a better rhythm away from the limelight
cowboysfan Posted February 8, 2022 Posted February 8, 2022 how many in the early overs?he is one of the big underachievers in our LOI games.
Vijy Posted February 9, 2022 Posted February 9, 2022 in a 6 bowler attack, this is my preference: 6. pandu/sundar/jaddu [use as per conditions provided pandu can bowl 3-5 overs] 7. deepak chahar/lord [for batting select lord, for bowling select deepak] 8. axar/?? [find accurate finger-spin replacement for axar who can tonk the ball 9. bishnoi/rahul chahar/markande [use attacking wrist spinner who can bat a bit] 10. mavi/bumrah 11. sirah/prasidh
rkt.india Posted February 9, 2022 Posted February 9, 2022 (edited) We need someone like agarkar. Bowling 135-142 with new ball and swinging the new ball. Siraj can be one. Kuldeep sen is another one who has similar quality in domestic, Simarjeet Singh is another candidate. Edited February 9, 2022 by rkt.india Vijy, Suhaan and Mosher 3
