anish2tweet Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 Inorder to retain the balance of the team, rather than removing an all-rounder to get back Dhawan, drop Pant (rest, if you will).KL should keep. Other things that can be tried are- try Avesh and Bishnoi instead of Siraj and Chahal. There is no place for SRK as he can't bowl. Sent from my CPH1819 using Tapatalk Vk1, Sgattick10 and tweaker 1 1 1
Adamant Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 Yeah Wow, lol. If this was TM's devious plan to remove Pant then hats of to the conspirators. I don't think that's the case though. Pant should be amongst the first few names in the team. express bowling and Sgattick10 2
zen Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 (edited) Why would anyone play Dhawan over any youngster that too in a dead rubber in a Paytm bilateral series versus a struggling WI? Edited February 10, 2022 by zen Sgattick10 1

SKY has performed and contributed in all games, Hooda made contributions in both games and in order to get the balance right, he should be played. Rohit, Dhawan, Kohli and Rahul pick by themselves based on their average/strike rate overall combo. If you are making claim for anyone of these four to be dropped, then all four deserves to be dropped in that case based on their recent form.

Haan to Dhawan saal bhar me jo 10-12 One day milta hai usse v rest le lega kya? He will play all ODI matches, there is no rest policy for him because he doesn't play any other format.

He missed two games (and also just recovered from Covid) so not much point in playing him in the dead rubber. Senior players should ideally not play dead rubbers unless struggling for form.

The argument is valid for those who are playing all formats and need break to make sure they are fresh. This is not applicable in Dhawan case. If he is in the scheme of things for 2023 WC, he should play all ODI matches irrespective of the opposition and venue because that is the only format he plays now.
vvvslaxman Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 Dhawan is very old. Not sure what is the point of keeping him in the scheme of things.

No one can be sure about 2023 WC 11 as form changes, along with having to battle any health and fitness issues. 1 game does not change equations for a senior player that too who has just recovered from COVID. But it gives confidence to a youngster. Ind may play him but not necessarily the right thing to do.
ShoonyaSifar Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 The continued faith in Dhawan shows we have learnt no lessons from 2019 WC build up. We kept picking Rayudu, Jadhav and DK despite their old age. Not surprisingly they all lost form a few months before the WC. Same will most likely happen with all these oldies Dhawan, Bhuvi, Ashwin and even Kohli and Rohit. Time is already running out to move on from them and give the younger players a run of 35-40 matches before the WC. Rohit is the captain and should be the only oldie playing the next WC. Imagine a grand dad's army in the 2023 WC with Pant as the youngest player aged 25. Easy to predict the outcome for the team. Vk1, rollingstoned, Sgattick10 and 1 other 4

coffee_rules Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 Rohit mentioned Dhawan being back. So, he will replace Hooda. He also said Pant opening is just an experiment. KL will be #4. and Pant #5 Not a bad option. Back to 5 bowlers.
zen Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 If Dhawan opens, it would be 3 different openers in 3 games! SRT100 1
Prabhdeep Singh Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 With series won, try the following: Not convinced with Pant as an ODI bat and it is likely that Rohit & Dhawan will open at the 2023 world cup. Dhawan Rohit Kohli KL Rahul (wk) SKY Sundar D Chahar S Thakur Bishnoi Avesh Prasidh
Sgattick10 Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 KL might not agree to keep wickets and I don't think team is thinking of that option either, Pant is the wk batsman in all formats whether some people like it or not. nevada 1
