He didnt bat confidently at all. Its not like he tried to score but couldn't due to skills (though that can't also decline so quickly). He just didn't try and is way too cautious

 

Most confidence he showed is towards that celebrating fielder after dismissal

Even during the massive partnership with Kishan he looked more like a low skilled lower order batsman mostly. Kishan was bossing them around.
