I am getting this feeling that Indian Cricket has suddenly hit The wall after gaining substantial momentum under the reign of Ravi Shastri. On one side their is this Love for Dud Trundler's, on the other side their is no vision for identifying and grooming new batting talents. Dravid is looking a shadow of himself in what he had acheived for India at under 19 level and looking absolutely clueless in terms of what to do with the Big Boys. Though there is no need to press the panic button yet, but the way things have panned out so far, it looks like a certain crash. A crash out of WT20 and a crash out of ODI World Cup 23 at home. Though as an Indian Cricket Fan, I pray that i am wrong and hope that RD manages to turn the table in what has been a devastating reign of Coaching so far. Edited July 6, 2022 by Sean Bradley

zen Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 (edited) I don't think Dravid (or any Indian coach for the matter) will do anything different than what has been happening over the years ... Most Indian coaches are afraid of a change, focused on short term, & mostly believe in fine tuning. Additionally, they have to deal with the "superstars" culture where personal milestones are cherished as well (which once upon a time in their playing days, they would have been a part of too) To bring a positive change (and catch up with the thinking process of top teams), you need to bring in someone from the outside When Shastri was the coach, he was attacked by the fans. Our fattu batsmen crapped at the very thought of having to put up a big score and gifted the match away to England. If Aus had batted in the 3rd innings, Smith, Labu and Khaja would have racked up big tons and set a target of 500+. Our batsmen have forgotten the skill of piling up huge totals abroad. They are too bowler dependent and barely score 300-350 even if the pitch has 500+ potential. Lone Wolf and Vilander 2

If not for Pant's special innings and company from Jadeja the first innings score would have been circa 250. Consistently are 4 or 5 down for around 100. 300 for this team is a mountain, the batting is that crap. Vilander, nitinbwj, nevada and 2 others 1 1 3

Right now 10 Kohlis = 1 Root. Straight away you are starting on the backfoot. Without gradual replacements suddenly we find a randomly assembled noobs playing together at the highest level with this bozo and another similar one Pujara. Pant's brilliance made us more competitive along with bowlers in the first innings. On a docile track we don't have spin option either. Ashwin failed in SA. Jaddu failed in England. No leggie to call upon. This team is running out of new ideas. That is where Dravid is woefully short. Very conventional.

This team needs to be revamped as the old guard require phasing out and younger players bought in. Not only that, but fresh thinking and strategies are required as seen in the dismal performances at international tournaments. Modern Day cricket needs a more Maverick of a Coach to build a Mean, Fearless Team. Someone like a McCullum who was a freak of a batsman himself. Dravid is a bit of a geek and also seems like an emotional Character. We need a strong character who thinks outside of Box and Out Fox the Opposition. Honestly I lost all respect for Dravid the coach, when Jadeja bowled 14 overs of Negative line on day 5 to Root and Bairstow. Which modern day Coach would come up with something as atrocious as this??
