Majestic Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 (edited) Rishabh Pant ODI stats :- First innings - 12 innings, AVG 47, S/R 116, 5 fifties Second inning - 11 innings, AVG 13, S/R 87, 0 fifties These stats indicate where team India is going as far as chasing totals is concerned in future, reflects a poor sign for things to come. gattaca Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 11 matches is hardly a stat to compare. Chakdephatte, nevada and Vijy 1 2
the don Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 He has a poor white ball record all around because of the way he bats.
vvvslaxman Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 Yes brought this up already. He is a bigger failures while chasing.
vvvslaxman Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 anti thesis of Dhoni who was master of setting up chases.

zen Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 (edited) Small sample size ... Looking at other formats, in T20s, he has the opposite #s 1st - avg 22, SR 116 2nd - avg 24, SR 138 Tests 4th innings - avg 72 I think he may be more suitable to bat either in the top order (#1-3) or lower middle order (#6-7) Edited July 14, 2022 by zen Vijy and Chakdephatte 2

Frustrated Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 Has always been totally useless in LOIs since the beginning (2018). Should continue to play only tests. nitinbwj 1

He can evolve in ODI as you have time to build an innings there. Also his keeping has come a long way. We just have to focus on maximizing his output there. But In T20 he should not be an automatic choice if someone else is available. gattaca and Frustrated 2

Dhawan is a constant, like Pi and much like Pi his contribution is like 3.14 Where is the immovable object in Dhawan going to bat. Vijy 1
Lone Wolf Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 Have to open with him. He covers swing decently. Even when he is on attack field restrictions will suit him. Spinner comes in after PP too. That's most ideal place to play him. Middle order is certainly not his game. I'll take him over Dhawan. Fit Rahul at no 5. SRT100 1
vvvslaxman Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 Dhoni when he started playing he was batting at no.3. Then he moved down the order. His style was being aggressive. After becoming captain he reduced his risk taking approach and started playing percentage cricket. He seamlessly adapted himself to various scenarios. Pant hasn't reached that flexibility level yet. Until he reaches that level we have to ensure he is surrounded by type of players who can complement him. SRT100 1

I struggle to understand how I can sit on my couch in Australia and have a better understanding of Pant where he should be positioned in the ODI team, compared to TM and the BCCI. Staggering. Of course youre right. Pant in the 1st Powerplay is the best position. It most resembles test cricket, with fielders in catching positions inside the circle. So when he goes big and if miscues it, likely to survive with only 2 fielders on the out. Dhawan is useless to Indian Cricket, useless. How is 9 off 26 considered a good innings? 31 off 54 another useless contribution as well. His scores v SA are deceptive, it doesnt look at how slow he is in the powerplay and how he sets up the innings for failure for the rest.

They humiliated him over his keeping and he has since gone to be a much much better keeper than what he was 3-4 years ago. Took some great catches in England. They need to give him time to open and multiple series both home and overseas. Old Man Uncle Shikhar is not a solution to Indian opening.
Vijy Posted July 15, 2022 Posted July 15, 2022 his best bet might be opening, but dhawan won't be going anywhere until 2027 WC.

That sample size is too small He is likely to evolve in ODI better since he has a lot more overs at his disposal. Today he started slowly almost like Dhoni. Not a complaint. That is the right approach. He has the ability to catch up. India cannot try to ape England's all out approach. They can do because their no.10 batsman can strike a few blows. India's batting stops at 6. I don't consider Jaddu as a finisher. He is going to be a support cast member for the rest of his career.
