We are responsible for this monster

Reading sharma comments today about Kohli , it looks like God can be wrong but Kohli can’t .

looking back , it seems we fans are responsible for this nonsense. We heroworshipped him in his heyday beyond reason .

What can be done to actually prevent such nonsense . Do we actually have any power ? Ipl etc are ruthless with non performing assets I think . can our national team be run in similar manner ?

what is it we can really do . When Kohli was kicked out of captaincy , I truly felt Rohit will get us one trophy . I had stopped watching cricket for two years . I started watching with Rohit as captain .

i feel all I can do is not watch . I live in usa and I think I have to give up on the nostalgia of seeing fab five and yuvi dhoni in heyday . This nepotism , mad selection was not there for a few years . Was gonna watch the ind pak t20 in 2024 but I think with such clear bias , my money is better spent on a vacation to Disneyland rather than buying tickets to fort Lauradele

The issue is more of a commercial nature.Virat Kohli is the most saleable asset in this team. He has lots  of investment, advertisment commercial assignments attached to him.

No new players ie Shreyas Iyer,Pant,Surya Yadav can command this value .

So Kohli will play atleast  for 2 years to redeem the investment in.him.

If he plays 1 good innings he will be marketed  " King is back"

In a way the fans are responsible . Not hearing boos on ground .

Indian cricket will die if there are no superstars.

That applies for every sport and every country.

Absolute garbage.

In Western Countries, cricket is not the number one sport throughout the year. In sports like Soccer, AFL, Rugby etc, regularly underperforming superstars are routinely dropped and removed from teams.

The problem is typical in India and Indian Cricket.

Yesterday was the first time I missed an ODI where I could have watched it, but didnt even realize it was on.

Ive lost passion for Indian Cricket, with Dhawan and Kohli destroying the fabric of Indian Cricket.

Those days of the Fab 5 and Dhoni and Yuvraj are from a timeline that will never ever exist again. I miss them, I enjoyed them. I have time for the new kids, I dont have time for the constant failing of Kohli and Dhawan.

Correct.

Dont blame Kohli and Dhawan. Hell I would play for India and couldnt care if I failed every innings if picked. Its massive amounts of money at stake here. No poster is shameless to say they wouldnt do the same.

Unfortunately we live in a world, where its Family First, then Mother India.

The problem is with BCCI and TM.

You want to know whats truly terrifying?

If Kohli scores a 100, he will be kept in the team for another 6 months at least, regardless of form.

If he doesn't score he will be in the playing 11for next 6 months ,if he score 100,he will be there till.he think he wants to be in the team

Lol, you don't need to tell me about Western countries.

Watch football and just see how it relies on superstars and their crazy fan following.

No it's not typical in India, even in Cricket there are many examples but I don't wanna waste my time in explaining something so trivial.

This is happening  with almost every big superstar in the last 30 years and will most probably happen with every big superstar of the future.

And what @tweaker said above is the biggest reason though not the only one.

And in the last 7 or 8 years, the big failing superstar is shielding himself by carrying 1 or 2 more even bigger deadwoods than him.

Team India will never reach its true potential with this phenomenon happening.

what folks should think about, is how since 2017, in spite of having obvious talent, guys like KL Rahul were never allowed the space in ODI top order to become regular contributors.  All to protect the marketing monopoly of kuptaan wrogn.  From 2016 onwards, did you see any young batsman ever get proper opportunities?  When Sehwag emerged with his talent - he wasn't the most consistent, but he was right away given a run at the top order even though he started at #6.  And KL Rahul inspite of best test opener was shunted down to "finisher" and had to resort to keeping, in order to get a regular spot in the ODI team.  Only old, limited players with short shelf life - Kedar Jadhav, Rayudu, etc were given chances and that too #5 or lower - to do the lower class work of high risk batting with low opportunities to rack up big scores.

Blatant abuse of power which cost India a very winnable 2019 WC.  I mean, win/loss can go wrong on any given day on any match.  But if instead of building a stronger team in the 2 years leading up to WC, you spend that time protecting advertising monopolies, then the results are predictable.

India failed to even reach the final in last ODI WC.  In spite of having the best bowling attack it has ever had in 30 years that I have been watching cricket.  Peak Boomrah - KulCha running wild over teams, with Bhuvi and Shami in the ranks.  We have not had this quality in our bowling unit for decades.  But the batting was "fragile" and failed to deliver.  Everybody who follows Indian cricket knew about the "over-dependence" on big 3, more than 2 years before the 2019 WC.  Why wasn't this problem solved? Heck team mgmt didn't even bother trying to solve it.  Instead, Kohli and his 2 buddies kept racking up useless bilateral 'centuries' and improving their ad revenue.

What happened after WC? Any criticism of Kohli? Any consequences he suffered for the predictable failure of the batting - a department of the game where India has always been super strong and has so many selection options?  Nope.  ZERO consequences for kuptaan wrogn.   Foolish fan base perfectly fine with "reaching semi-final" - i.e. coming 4th in what was effectively a 4 horse race.

And thats why like @express bowling said, things will not change until this culture that allows impunity in the top leadership to persist without accountability.  People follow incentives.  Systemic incentives lead to results.  Can't blame Virat for maximising his earnings potential when he literally had no consequences.  He was ruthlessly efficient at not only racking up huge number of white ball runs, but also huge ad revenue.

it will continue to be a good to mediocre team, but never an outstanding one. always a world no. 3-4 but never a clear world no. 1

we will continue to be a perennial bridesmaid until this whole mindset is fixed.

Indian cricket and it's value would definitely drop if the superstars are dropped, bcci without money and that would be game over for Indian cricket, selectors need to be a lot more transparent but sadly they can't with the likes of kohli and rohit around, there was some bad blood a few years back when kohli had pretty much every ad, endorsement to himself, even now the likes of pandya, Jadeja, bumrah to dont exactly get along with him

Ok so best bet is talented cricketers with good instagram support can reach the main 11. Problem is both seldom coexist and the opposite is usually true. Only true athletes who are completely dedicated to their craft and literally live and breathe their sport can reach the top and maintain their peaks. Ala Ronaldo, Messi, nadal, federer have this in common..

Steven Smith in cricket and perhaps root actually are the only ones I can think of that are truly dedicated to their craft and would play the sport the same way irrespective of how much they earn for a living

Coolie will not. Period.

lol. I do need to educate and teach you about Western Countries and thats ok, its a forum and Im here to help and make you understand.

Its absolutely cute and adorable that you think you understand and clutch onto Kohli like some sought of Hindu demi God.

In all other major sports outside of India, like EPL, NFL,NBA, Rugby, AFL superstars/legends are not only dropped for underperforming, they are traded.

I will keep it simple so you understand, one of the biggest all time Clubs, like Man U, traded Beckham and even Ronaldo, where Kohli is absolutely nothing compared a complete zero to these two in terms of world standing, legendary standing, respect, admiration and wealth. There are many examples.

Why?

Because No Player is bigger than a Club.

Now sit down, keep quiet and let those that fully grasp and understand the concepts at play, discuss further.
