When will Shubman Gill cement his place in the side

In tests i was more disappointed by his play in Indian pitches offering turn. He is good player of spin  but did not fight it out and score runs .

 

50  Overs  -

1, Very few chances  with long gaps . He will do  well as an anchor in top 3 at run a ball  type innings . Not suitable below that position & we need one batter in top 3  of that kind.

 2. He will perform as good as present top 3 if given a continous run. This is very important now if he has to blossom in 50 overs . If Dravid  can give him  a slot in top 3 in all future 50 over matches in place of one of present  top 3 , he will settle in .

3.  Area he needs to develop is the game for 20-40 over of exploiting 4 man filed restriction by hitting in gaps  & and getting more 2 s.as he is not Power hitter.

 

Agree to everything but when to talk about 20-40 overs, you are already expecting to score hundreds consistently. I expect him to score 60-70 regularly at a good strike rate. This 20-40 overs is the job for Iyer, Pant, SKY, etc.

 

And he has game against spinners to be even batting at no.4. It's just that he got nervous in 80s.

For all the talks about his slow fielding, he is the safest catcher we have have. Didn't have much experience of slip fielding before playing for India, did surprisingly well. Stands at short leg in tests which is a tough position as well. And I have seen a few screamers in the outfield in IPL.

He has the ability and t we tecnique to be consistent. If he constantly works on his shot selection he will be a like for like replacement of Kohli (information kohli)

good thing to see is his strike rate.. he can be that unique player who plays textbook shots but still scores at 100+ SR

If Dhawan retires now that would be a graceful retirement. HE has not hit the absolute nadir like Kohli did.

If Shubhman keeps playing in B side against team like WI..Zim etc..he will end up having more avg and consistency than Babar

Such things doesn't happen in Indian team,Rohit,Kohli,Rahul,Dhawan are automatic choice when they are free from vacation,rest,injuries.

Sehwag had a couple of bad games, Dhawan was brought in to replace him and that was it for Sehwag he never played for India after Dhawan's fantastic debut.

How lol ? Recently scored century and now 70. Kohli has been in worst of forms.

Has hasn't got a ODI  100 since 2019.  Made some 90s. But that is not the issue here.  He has played 11 ODIs this year. Strike rate is 75.  Most of his innings are selfish. Basically to protect his place that too against weak sides.

But if he is not given chance against top teams how can he score ? He was not selected for England tour. It’s a bit unfair to judge him regarding strike rate he did it according to situation.

I don't think Dhawan will be treated same way. He is about 5-10 bad games away and Gill good games to get him kicked out. Dhawan will not be playing WC 2023, mark my words.

Dhawan has the advantage of being left handed. TM seems to be eyeing him for WC2003 or else they wouldn't be picking him. Ironically, he is the fittest among the erstwhile big three and on current form, seems like a better bet than Kohli.
