So you want me to sit out? KL Rahul gives a befitting reply when asked should Virat Kohli open for India

So many irrelevant and meaningless IPL games and T20I's and India yet to properly state their preferred batting and bowling line up.

This is why Indian cricket fails consistently. No continuity. How can a team be so ill prepared for a WC is mind blowing.

I bet my life that the first game we play in the WC, will be the first time the lineup will have been used in the past few years if ever.

The madness that is Indian Cricket.

If we ever win a WC its by accident rather than careful and methodical planning.

Going with our history, if that happens...the mediocre players will get a free pass for the next 5 years.

They have 6 games to prepare for the t20 world cup against Australia and South Africa. Common sense would be to play the same XI as much as possible so that they get to know their roles and gel well.

But they have rested 3 players who will probably start in world cup first match, leaving them out for nearly 1.5 months of no international cricket.

Thats isnt just pathetic and embarrassing. Its pathetic.

It would be fine, if India was a powerful and successful force on the field, but it isnt. We regularly fail at WC tournaments.

Its arrogance that the BCCI think they know more than posters on a forum.

As you mentioned, Indian XI need to know their roles and in different scenario's too. Chasing big or small, Setting up big or small, Defending big or small totals. You cannot achieve this in just 6 games, esp in the sub continent.

Such entitlement. Why cant these guys bat outside top 3

Give me an example of one specialist opener whos ever dropped down the order.

Some how we are ok with middle order bats promoting themselves to open, but some one whos always been opening being comfortable in his spot is criminal.

KL sucks as an opener, especially past 2-3 years and I think he should play at 5 but what you are asking him to sacrifice which in general doesnt happen in Indian/SC cricket .So  I dont see what hes doing is wrong.

Probably dada was the only one, who sacrificed his position at top of the order.

Didn't he used to bat at #5 in ODIs not very long ago? Why can't he bat at #5 in T20s then? Pant at #5 will be wasted anyhow so having Rahul there is much more likely to work.

Rohit

Pant

Kohli

Surya

Rahul

DK

Pandya

Axar

Harshal

Bumrah

Arshdeep

Looks perfect to me!

Kohli is such crying little she-dog he gets insecure over Gills and Shaws. Kela Rahul's height alone must make Coolie's chaddi geeli.

So you one of those who was crying then. Wonderful.

Sachin batted at 4 many times. Because it was better for team (atleast as per them). And he was performing at top too.

KL with his tuk tuk is a liability in powerplay but can be brilliant in slog overs with not much option but to attack.

Its ultimately team interests above individual

Not in LOI cricket but Gavaskar tried to go from opener to middle-order in tests in mid 80s. I think Kapil (then captain) did not like it and and preferred that he keep opening. So he went back to his opening slot.

KL Rahul's strike crossed 140 career strike rate in his 4th match. Since then his strike did not go below 141. After his Pakistan match his strike rate went below 141 (58th match). Right now in the 140s.  It is statistically provable that he is being slow these days.

Gavaskar did open during the famous 1985 Champions trophy and few other occasions. Back then Shastri/Cheeka combo was famous for a period. Later on Sidhu joined Srikkanth briefly.

Actually TM/Ganguly wanted him to play in the MO, but Tendulkar was not happy after few matches and went back to opening

Thats actually an example of star player wanting to play a easier role. in Tests opening is tough, arguably the toughest job in Cricket, any decently successful opener will statistically look much much better down the order.

Most MO batsmen who moved themselves up to opening in LOIs , conveniently stay in middle in Tests. Only three batsmen who standout for me in that regard, Dravid who played at 3 in Tests, but dropped himself lower down in ODIs, Viru though in LOIs he was promoted to open, opened in Tests as well and in recent days I have to give it to Rohit, similar to Viru he was gifted the opening spot in LOIs, but all credit to him hes been opening in Tests.

yes agree on that, I always thought Tendulkar was more suited for that role which is what Ganguly wanted but as that was not option he did drop himself down. we had a similar top heavy batting back then

No he went back because the idea failed royally in 2007 ODI WC.

Tendulkar was doing fine in opening, was demoted to accomodate others

Here Rahul tuk tuks in powerplay and has done better in MO in even ODI. No harm trying it in T20
