Iyer is also not ready for T20s. And probably would never be.

In the last one year or so he has been the third highest run getter for India with a strike rate of 140.  Won a couple of man of the matches, a man of the series award. His problem is short ball. But otherwise he is a reasonably positive batsman. India's problem against pakistan was their inability against spin.  Both of them tied us down big time. We have enough batsmen to go after seamers. Not spinners.

:yawn2: squad

My preferred 11

Gill

Samson or Pant or Sundar or equivalent

Hooda

SKY

SDP

DK

Tewatia or Jadeja or equivalent

Moshin

Bumrah

Umran (for pace X factor) or D Chahar (for batting at #8)

Chahal or Bishnoi or Kuldeep or equivalent

All of them expect two, suck vs pace. These Hooda-Voodas will not be able to hit 2021 Starc, let alone the 2022 one.

What was the rush?

Where is the innovation?

Why couldn't we wait for Australia series?

Why proper players like Subhman Gill are not selected when we know he is tailor made for Australian conditions?

Why a bowler like Shami or Siraj not picked considering the WT20 will be played on grounds helping seam bowlers?

What is Ashwin still doing in T20 team?

Why is Bishnoi in provisional team when he is the best spinner on form?

Panauti Chetan Sharma strikes again

Gill had a similar strike this IPL. Don't think we should look much into these numbers. I guess Iyer's s.r will drop if you exclude that one series vs. Sri Lanka at home.

Agree with the sentiment but FYI WT20 is in Australia

You cannot drop anything.  Gill batted whole 20 overs made 43 runs in the IPL. He is not the guy you are looking for.  Those kind of players are more harmful like Rizwan is for Pakistan.

No qualms with the squad except for a pace bowler slot , Hooda and DK will play musical chairs. One was enough preferably DL

Defensive bowling option gone with Bishnoi out of the side. Against Pakistan a guy like Bishnoi would be gold. Arshdeep dropped a catch of Bishnoi. Otherwise he would have been the man of the moment.

Australia pitches are different than UAE. India never had the mojo for winning in UAE and losing tosses. Last time chahal was effective in bigger grounds of Australia:

https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/india-in-australia-2020-21-1223867/australia-vs-india-1st-t20i-1223952/full-scorecard

Performance in biletral and in tournaments are all together different ballgame. Bhuvi and chahal are mental midget and choke right at crucial moment we have seen that in wc 19 sf. Also Bhuvi in wt20 21 and many before. Not just that even on their best days they are burden to team as these 2 can't win you matches when 6 runs of 6 ball required and they are the worst fielders.
