zen
Pant is one of the well supported players in the Indian set up and rightly so as he has the talent and clutch performance qualities. We heard voices from many quarters about giving him opportunities in the top order (#1-3) and now that appears to be shaping up as well. Therefore, we can say that events are in motion for Pant. Now it is up to Pant to utilize these opportunities. Since the team has invested in him, I would say give him up to IPL to settle down and demonstrate his talent. In IPL, not only his form and performances, but also players who can serve similar purpose (a Samson, who can keep too, for e.g. but probably without the same level of clutch performance qualities) can be evaluated to take the call on the way forward. It is make or break time for Pant. However, the positive for Pant is that now the ball is in his court! Link to comment
zen
Below are the LOI games that Pant could be a part of (w/ some rotation) before the IPL: 3 ODIs in NZ 3 ODIs in BD 3 ODIs v SL 3 T20s v SL 3 ODIs v NZ 3 T20s v NZ 3 ODIs v Aus Edited November 20, 2022 by zen Link to comment
dilliboy
I think he has done very well in ODIs in the past 1.5 years that there shouldn't be questions about his place. But yes, needs to prove his worth in T20Is...would like to see him getting a long rope as an opener for the next few games nevada 1 Link to comment
Number
In ODIs he is good. Has pretty much cemented his place in first XI. Since 2019 WC he is averaging 40+ with s/r more than 110. T20Is opener role is what he is in contention for and if he doesn't do well as opener in T20s then he should be dropped from T20s definitely. nevada 1 Link to comment
Norman
Still don't get why they're so desperately persisting with him in T20is. He's a brilliant batsman in 2 out of the 3 "more important" formats and that should be absolutely fine. We have enough options in T20is. Chewtiya TM should stop making everyone to be an all format superstar. singhvivek141, BacktoCricaddict and Frustrated 3 Link to comment
singhvivek141
We shouldn't worry even if Pant doesn't succeed in T20I's, we have multiple options for white ball formats but none in Tests. Likes of Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson should be sufficient for our T20I needs, Pant can focus on tests and at times in ODI's. Edited November 21, 2022 by singhvivek141 Link to comment
Vijy
shouldn't be playing T20s IMO at the moment. is doing alright in ODIs and great in tests. BacktoCricaddict 1 Link to comment
Majestic
There is no need of him in T20s. He should be dropped. Also, he will play Tests and ODIs so a comeback to Indian T20 team will always be in the corner. So, we shouldn't waste our time much on this subject. Time is a precious gift and it needs to be utilised well. Best Regards, The 'Majestic' one BacktoCricaddict and Lord 1 1 Link to comment

Shocking to say the least His late father was quite overweight and Pant has probably inherited the quick weight gain trait. But still, as a professional sportsman who can have a full-time fitness person and nutritionist at his disposal, Pant cuts a sorry figure with his out of shape appearance. He needs to do a better job of maintaining discipline with his eating and fitness routine. Link to comment

He and Rohit seem to have gained more weight after they landed in Australia. That is alarming. If anything you should be losing weight. Link to comment

zen
Pant withdrew from the BD ODIs where KL was asked to keep and Kishan took the opportunity to score a double 100. Interesting time ahead for Pant. Link to comment
