  1. 1. Aswin or Jadeja overseas as the main spinner?

    • Yes
    • No
    • He should've always been the first choice post Sydney 2019 😒

In 2018 series Umesh played if i am right. Pandya left even before that. His career was too short. Right about the time Kuldeep found his strides. After that our tail became longer. Kulcha were weaving magic in LOIs meanwhile. He did get hit around in a couple of matches. Then that IPL fiasco against Moeen Ali.  Kuldeep's own mental issues also played its part.  But in the last couple of years he should have played for us

Umesh played in SENA in 2018 in 1 test that Bumrah missed in England. I think there was only 1 test when all 4 played and that was in Perth 2018

Hardik was playing tests in SA 2018 and England 2018.

Kuldeep should play in Asia, no 2 thoughts.

In SENA countries...it's a tough call because our top order is just playing on their past reputation, and to accomodate them the likes of Jadeja and Ashwin are played to cover up for their failures.

Hence, if Kuldeep to play alongside Siraj, Shami and Bumrah...it means Kuldeep & Bumrah must prepare themselves to bat and also Siraj and Shami can't just blindly swing their bat in air with no intent. As our top order seniors will keep on sucking for years because they have great fan following and brand image.

2 years late.  I always maintained wristies are your best bet in SENA. Because finger spinners cannot extract bounce like a wristie does.

Wristies can also be expensive and lose the game, which is more likely than them doing well.

Spinners are support cast in SENA and you need control from them.

On the contrary, good spinners are the difference between a good/above avg side vs a great one! Do you know who was the only spin bowler, with a cutoff of at least 100 wickets, in the last 50 years to avg less away from home? You probably know the answer to that :bebored:

Depends on the teams.Aus,eng,sa req spinners to balance their team, we need pacers.

We don't have 4 match winning pacers, at best 2 or maybe 3 if the latter is in red hot form. If you are comparing Oz then surely you forgot Lyon or even Maharaj for SA? And yes we need a good wicket taking spinners, I can remember at least 10-12 tests where our spinners failed in 3rd/last innings of the game to either lose us the match or draw it! And this goes for both Jadeja & Ashwin :hitler:

What has Jadeja done wrong to not be the first choice spinner in tests?

Kuldeep can be a backup and play on pitches where we actually need two spinners.

Oval, Sydney, Mcg, West Indies are some places  apart from Asia where we can play both Jadeja and Kuldeep

SA usually play a spinner at home, also away unless it's a really seam friendly pitch like Joburg 2018. Eng pitches over the last 15 years have consistently gone from balanced to more & more seam friendly, it's even worse in NZ. NZ, Eng, SA are the worst places for spin bowlers in that order - Oz is more balanced, just like India when it comes to pace/spin of course they support pace more just like ours support spin more. I'll also add that the changes in pitches particularly Eng, NZ is definitely a deliberate move by these teams to counter opposition like Asian sides!

If you select jadeja as one spinner then the other spinner must be a reliable one where Kuldeep might lack a bit being a wrist spinner. If kuldeep has a bad match runs will come easily since opponent will attack kuldeep and play out jadeja. Ashwin can be economical even in a bad match and thus Jadeja will also be more effective since jadeja gets wickets by frustrating the opposition with accurate bowling.

Its actually amazing that we all saying Kuldeep is back and everything.. its mindblowing to think this fellow already has 189 international wickets which is kind of insane taking into consideration he literally didnt play last 3 years in the team consistently..

Ashwin isn't effective away from home. We need an attacking spinner in some places which usually support spinner.

Two containing spinners won't really help us.

In most test venues outside Asia, we would need 4 pacers. Except the ones that you mentioned above.

This means we can play just 1 spinner at No.7 and he must have batting ability then.

Jadeja is the best option for this role.

Kuldeep should play in SENAW tests only if we decide to play 2 spinners and drop Shardul.

He was lost after his IPL assault and people want him to be main spinner. He had to go back to domestic cricket and work on his game to regain the confidence.

Every young player goes thru this phase, it is good that instead of denting his confidence more in limelight he was made to go back  to work on his game.

Playing MMQB is very easything to do.

He was dropped even before IPL assault. Chahal is a certified IPL bully. Always do well in IPL.

he is usually an allrounder like Jadeja or Ashwin batting at 7.

Ashwin as a wicket taker outside subcontinent is .......

Ashwin has his fans - inside and outside establishment - who are convinced he has turned the corner. They  insisted the same on this board before SA series in SA. Ashwin was even worse than before there.

But he has his fans.... gotta give him that.

There is no harm in playing a seam bowling all rounder at no. 7 on seamer friendly tracks overseas. Then Kuldeep and 3 pacers. Wristies have the ability to take pitches out of equation and are played regardless of type of pitches as a wicket taking option.

Jadeja's coming to the end of his career as well, he'll probably play 1 more set of major overseas tour in Eng/Oz/SA at best & he gets injured constantly these days. Don't expect him to be a frontline spinner, especially overseas anymore!
