Do you feel by playing in County which mostly  is now played in the first and back end of the english summer ( MAy and september) which only is helpful for trundlers ( this is admitted by english cricketers themselves) how will this improve Arshdeep in his red ball cricket. I get if he was signed up to play for the white ball tournaments in England then yes more Indias should come play that. But if you arent a IndianTest regular or in line for playing Tests then this move is simply puzzling and doesnt add much value

For a young player, its a good experience to play in a different environment.  Bowling with the dukes ball, in English conditions, soaking in how the county pros play their cricket, the expectation on him as an overseas signing to lead the bowling unit in some way - these are all positives.

Look, I don't mean to come across as harsh, and I may have.  But I think you are unnecessarily pigeon-holing players based on your own personal perception, not even evaluation, of what you think a player is, or can be.  That's quite silly tbh, especially when it comes to young players.

The no-ball specialist can play whatever he wants as along as he is kept away from the Indian team (apart from filling in if required in bilaterals)

unnecessary vitriol hurled at a young player.  If it was some pimply kid who was a newbie around here, or someone habitually guilty of such ignorant 'hot takes', that would be one thing. Disappointing to see someone capable of capable contributions to the forum, slide down that slipper slope of silliness....

Not sure why OP is so upset about this.  Its a good move by a young player to learn about conditions in England and develop his skillset.  Add to that he's a leftarmer.  Its hard to find a negative here of any sort.  So again, not clear why any Indian fan wouldn't be happy about this.

Unless you have some sort of pathological obsession with 'hating' on pace bowlers who aren't express....

OP is upset as if he is going to play in county on tax payers money :giggle:

Im not pigeon holing anyone merely stating facts. IF by some miracle Arshdeep makes the test team it will be due to his IPL breakthrough ( just like Bumrah) but the difference is he neither has the pace or quality to match Bumrah to play tests for India. If he was a potential for tests then I would welcome this I am merely stating my opinion on where BEST value be achieved based on where HE is when it comes to playing the format for Team India

I wish him the best of luck on his stint even if its only for 4 matches..

In the world T20 if i am right Arshdeep generated one of the highest swing.  Also in swinging conditions at Trivandrum he wreaked havoc against SA reducing them to 8 for 5. A guy like him can be more than handy with Duke balls. He can run through sides. Infact 135 to 140 kph bowlers are more effective in English conditions. Look at Robinson. He hardly has any pace. But he is having a decent record everywhere.

If the County team wants to pick him, then why object? It is good for him. I do think his style of bowling may suit early conditions in the County season. So, good for him.

Zaheer lacked discipline until he joined the county replacing AKhtar for worcestershire. That was his turning point. Picked 78 wickets. Until that point his bowlinlg average was 36 or something. He brought it down to 32 after that. His under-19 batchmates Nagarkoti, Mavi, Porel are yet to make a name for themselves at the international. This guy was not even a regular. It is impressive to see him come thus far.

Funny , people  are questioning the decision of a player as to how he can improve his game . The player himself knows better what can help him.

He has problems with his run up & no balls and also lost some control over length after injury. Bowling long spells should help  him address these

on priority.

If a guy wants to improve what is the issue people have ? . Actually one should appreciate that he will playing and improving his skill during off season

rather than wasting his time.

Its not that he has been selected for Indian team . A county has agreed to take him. He forte is swing and England is a better place to hone that skill further.

What he will become in future ,no body knows , if he does not progress well ,he may not get selected in longer format.

Hate for trundlers should not make people to talk loosely when a player is making honest effort to improve. Disappointing !

If he was playing the majority of the season then yes your point is valid. He’s playing for 4 matches only.. not enough to transform him into a better bowler..

What vitriol?  … Appear as if one has to write in a simple way like “Arshdeep, because of his problems such as with no balls in LOIs and fielding (and availability of better options), is to be treated like a backup bowler for Team India. Outside of that he should be free to play whatever and wherever he wants to improve his game (or whatever) … Disappointed with how one has to dumb it down (maybe even remove traces of humor) to get a point across!
