Who is/was the Best part time bowler in the world?

I think Sachin Tendulkar was the most skillfull part time bowler I have ever seen, closely followed by Virender Sehwag, he was exceptional with the loop and guile especially on Indian pitches.

 

Suresh Raina & Tillakaratne Dilshan were good too. Craig Mcmillan and Chris Harris were also good when it came to containment.

 

For me Sachin has to be the best in sheer ability to bowl all kinds of spin, had a devastating googly. Man with the golden arm.

 

Can't think of anyone from the current generation of cricketers.

The best part timer, what does that mean?

My reading is any bowler who started as a part timer but improved his bowling so much that he became a regular bowler?

 

Some of the names that come to my mind:

Root

Yuvraj

Dilshan

 

I think these guys are very much up there.

Someone who could just come and roll his arm over. Someone who is not known to bowl and the kind of bowler the captain would bring just for an over before tea break.

He has picked only 98 wickets in 110 Tests. Not comparable at all to Jaddu/Shakib in Tests

 

In ODIs he bowled more often but still not a regular 10 over bowler

When it comes to skills and potential, Tendulkar as a bowler was as good as Hardik Pandya. There is more to the game than stats and noobs should look beyond stats.

Currently Joe Root. Can’t think of anyone. 

 

Does Sachin qualify as a parttimer if he does he has to be the undisputed winner.

 

Sehwag too would  have had a lot more 5frs on the pitches we have played in the last 3-4 years. He had bowling talent too.

 

Yuvi I consider him a batting allrounder and not a parttimer.

Hafeez was a parttimer at best but excellent and could be deadly. However same Yuvraj principle applies to him

So true. Sachin could have made it as a bowler alone.

 

similarly Sehwag too. We went from parttimers or batting allrounders like Sehwag, Yuvi or even Ganguly to guys like Jadhav etc.  even Raina was a downgrade as a bowler from these guys and it kept getting worse with Jadhav and I remember MSD throwing the ball to even Dhawan, Vijay and Rayudu who had illegal actions. Even Kohli was used as a part timer: that’s how low our stock has fallen in that area

Carl Hooper is another name that comes to my mind. Joe root is also exceptional. Graeme Smith also had a uncanny knack of picking up wickets. Mark Waugh, Man he had a golden arm dint he. So did Michael Vaughan.

 

Our own Dada Ganguly won us a series against Pakistan with back to back fifers in Toronto i remember.

Salim Malik and Aamer Sohail were quite handy for Pakistan. Aravinda De Silva was an excellent part time bowler - could break partnerships. Ranatunga used to bowl as well. Jimmy Amarnath was a good part timer as well.
