jalebi_bhai Posted June 24, 2023 Posted June 24, 2023 The guy has been scoring bucketloads of runs in domestic cricket. Has slimmed down quite a bit as well. What else is he supposed to do? Score runs on the moon? Only reason I can think of for this continuous ignoring is that he lacks marketability. Discuss.
vvvslaxman Posted June 24, 2023 Posted June 24, 2023 Sarfraz was one of the better performer in the under-19 world cup for us. Saved us a few times with crunch knocks. Could be quota issue. North zone/west zone/south zone something like. Shreyas Iyer - West Jaiswal - West Ruturaj - West Suryakumar yadav - West Rohit - West So Sarfraz who is representing west is struggling to find a spot. If i were him i would go play for Bengal as we don't have many from East zone. tweaker, nevada, AKane and 1 other 4
Lone Wolf Posted June 24, 2023 Posted June 24, 2023 Don't think he is good enough at the top level. Guy always looks hurried against genuine pace. Never been totally convinced with him. Rajat Patidar had a better reason to not find a place than him. Stellar IPl, domestics + India A stint. Was also picked in Indian team for BD tour. Sgattick10, spiritb2, tweaker and 1 other 1 3

I don't think we should set the precedence of not even considering someone who came through ranks. From high school cricket to under-19 world cup where he did very well better than Pant/Kishan. Also did well in domestic. T20 may not be his format. We pushed even SKY ahead of him who has an average first class record. BacktoCricaddict 1
zen Posted June 24, 2023 Posted June 24, 2023 Can’t comment because I have not seen him play domestics, which I do not value high due to the relatively average level of competition and conditions. I have seen him in IPL where he faced good bowling. For e.g. Wood at Lucknow and it appeared as if he had some work to do. A feedback (from various quarters) system is likely to be used by BCCI, and there could be a wait and watch policy on Sarfaraz. Since the test team is in a transition phase, there would be opportunities. So Sarfaraz if he is really good is likely to get an opportunity as well. I am not a fan of musical chairs system where every few months players come and go. A player should be evaluated based on multiple parameters and if he shows promise given sufficient opportunities to succeed.
tweaker Posted June 24, 2023 Posted June 24, 2023 I think there is some Disciplinary problem with him. He and his father had also some issues with Mumbai ranji team, after that he played for UP for some seasons. beetle 1
singhvivek141 Posted June 24, 2023 Posted June 24, 2023 There is no space in MO...let's be very clear about that. Secondly, though Sarfaraz does have truckloads of runs, he always fail when the camera is on him. He scored 21 and 0 in A games vs Bangladesh, while Jaiswal and Easwaran smashed centuries, then in IPL he was batting like a tailender against genuine quicks. More than him, I am sad for Abhimanyu Easwaran, poor chap did nothing wrong but still has to sit in sidelines while likes of Ruturaj Gaekwad leapfrog him despite inferior FC stats. A Game vs BD shouldn't really be the criteria. We can come up with performers in every category yet they won't find a place. We just invent reasons why they may have been dropped. His selection should have been more straightforward. He didn't even have to be good in India A. That was never a criteria. Right now IPL and other formats are criteria. Ruturaj purely came into the Test side because of IPL. So did Rahane return. SKY came into the test side because he did well in T20 internationals. They had eggs on their face. But for crazy run from Jaiswal he would still be sitting outside waiting for his selection. rollingstoned 1
Prabhdeep Singh Posted June 24, 2023 Posted June 24, 2023 You should not always look at 1st class numbers: R Gaikwad may have the worst 1st Class Average (42) however looks the most accomplished out of Y Jaiswal (80), S Khan (79). When picking Test Players for India you need to pick players who can play the short ball well and imagine how they will do in SENA countries. Therefore at number 3 I would pick Gaikwad ahead of Jaiswal. I know Jaiswal has scored heavily but the stroke play looks a bit rushed and wild. Same for S Khan who looks a bit iffy against high pace. India should also look at the following players going forward: Tilak Verma P Shaw (needs to lower his bat lift) Yash Dhull The best players are usually the ones who can play all formats therefore the squad picked for west Indies is reasonable in terms of batting perspective. I would have picked Samson (WK) as 2nd wicket keeper not sure why they are picking KS Bharat. tweaker 1

You should be good enough to play channel balls. Jaiswal is way better than others. Sarfraz i have not seen enough. But in under-19 he put up his hand every time India was in trouble. He pulled India out of the crisis. Besides playing short ball in India is different from playing short ball elsewhere. Example DK is one of the better player against short ball. He sucked in internationals. Norman and tweaker 2
BacktoCricaddict Posted June 24, 2023 Posted June 24, 2023 He got an opportunity with India A, but I don't remember him doing anything of note. That may have caused doubts to creep in, maybe? Thing is, no matter the quality of opposition, an average of 80 with a 70 SR in FC is indicative of something special. He deserved a look-in at least against the WI. Lord, tweaker and singhvivek141 3

He deserved a look-in at least against the WI. Naman Ojha sizzled big time for India A in one of the AUstrlaian tour. But never picked. India A tour is not a metric as far as i know. Vihari scored 3 fifties in India A tour to South Africa. I bet most won't back him now. I am not sure how many India A tour he even made. For one thing Rohit bots/Kohli bots started this theory he was not considered because of Bangladesh A tour failure. Most domestic teams are better than Main bangladesh team let alone Bangladesh A team. It is not like Sarfraz is respresenting some plate team. He is representing an elite team in domestic. tweaker 1
Malcolm Merlyn Posted June 25, 2023 Posted June 25, 2023 Gaikwad is in the team because he plays the IPL for CSK. Big lobby.Vengsarkar, when he was the chief selector, mentions how CSK lobby wanted Badrinath in the team but he fought them to get Kohli in.The present clowns would give into social media PR marketing let alone a CSK lobby.Gaikwad will fail in tests. He is a big FTB. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Lord 1

He is troubled by pace and bounce. tweaker 1

Only use 2 criteria for overseas selection Can the batsman play pace and are they ok vs bounce. They can always be trained to counter swing but the former 2 is difficult to get accustomed to as witnessed by many past players who have remained poor vs short ball through out their careers. I watched sarfeaz play and in my opinion he should not be picked for anywhere outside Asia, west Indies. He will fare badly in sena given his poor ability vs short ball. Can it be worked on? Absolutely but it's much easier to learn how to counter swing than handle short ball.

tweaker Posted June 25, 2023 Posted June 25, 2023 Sarfaraz non selection is mostly.due to discipline, attitude, rash behaviour. He has issues with age fudging, showing disrespect to selectors, his brother has been banned by Mumbai team for 3 years due to indiscipline. Mumbai team had also blocked his full fees for the Ranji season for some discipline problems. His father is very demanding and cocky,so most of the problems Sarfaraz is facing may be because of him beetle 1

Not so much pace but bounce pf certain lengths like head. Head has issues vs chest level balls. Sarfraz is the same. If you bowl away from him, he will tonk you easy. Mind you, he isnt like iyer against short ball. Nowhere as bad as iyer. Iyer is horrendous vs short ball lol. Sarfraz skills can be worked on. One thing I will say is he batted really well vs Jansen in A tours in s.africa. tweaker 1
tweaker Posted June 25, 2023 Posted June 25, 2023 Sarfaraz has came through age cricket in Mumbai. He has come through school.cricket,u 13,u 15,u 19 ,Mumbai Ranji team,IPL ,A team ,so I don't think.he may be that weak to play pace bowling. He may have face some good pace bowling along the way and in between he had played for UP ranji team and he may have faced Tyagi,Mohsin,Rajpoot there who are quite quick
Vickydev Posted June 25, 2023 Posted June 25, 2023 Sarfaraz has been the man of crisis for Mumbai, it's just not just looking at his numbers but how good he has looked against movement with his counter attacking play and his ability to attack against spin when the team is trouble. Exactly the kind of temperament we need but yeah let's wait for him to do well in IPL, only then do players get to play. tweaker and nevada 2
