Brian Lara avg under 35 in test against India doesnt translate to our bowling lineup being best in that era

prabhakar got exposed in many diff cases too. not sure why you brought up lara here.

Prabhakar averaged 37 in tests snd 29 in ODIs as a bowler.

So, he wasn't that good a bowler overall either. Not a case of just that game.

Prabhakar was one of the better ones we had at that point in time. Plus he could open with bat when required which was a bonus once kapil retired ànd we needed a long batting line up.

We were such a poor team 90s. No openers, only a young Sachin with bat and kumble with ball were the only players, no fats bowlers, captain fixed matches then cheats like jadeja.

Batting is a different issue.

Prabhakar opened the bowling for us and he was a typical slow and movement dependant new ball bowler that has been our bane for decades.

Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul won't be fit by Asia Cup

Also, Jaiswal is not in the reconning in ODIs for now.

I think Tilak Varma will be a surprise entry replacing Samson.

If the squad is likely to have 2 WKs, and if KL remains unavailable, both Samson & Kishan could get the nod.

Failure in Asia cup will jeopardize the chances for the much bigger and longer WC.

If I was either KL or Iyer, I would be reluctant to play. Most likely India will not do well in Asia cup and KL and Iyer will be shoe ins for the WC in that case.

However if Asia cup is a pre-requisite to prove fitness then they have no choice but to play.

It will.

Rohit, Gill, Kishan

Kohli, Samson, SKY, Hardik

Jadeja, Axar, Thakur

Shami, Siraj, Bumrah

Kuldeep, Chahal

15 finalized.

highly unlikely but we are in desperate need of a solid left handed MO player.  Tilak could solve the problem...  But he is also like Jaiswal part of Asian Games squad so 99% won't get picked for Asia Cup or WC.

That Asia games squad is not written in stone though...its at BCCIs discretion and they can swap players anytime. I think one of Jaiswal or Tilak would get drafted into main team.

I would have this 15 member squad for Asia Cup -

Openers:

Rohit Sharma (c)

Shubhman Gill

Yashasvi Jaiswal

Middle Order:

Virat Kohli

Tilak Varma

Ishan Kishan (wk)

KL Rahul (wk)

SuryaKumar Yadav

All Rounders:

Hardik Pandya

Ravi Jadeja

Shardul Thakur

Spinners:

Kuldeep Yadav

Yuzi Chahal

Seamers:

Jasprit Bumrah

Mohammad Siraj

Top 3

Rohit

Kohli

Shubman

Jaiswal

4,5,6

Varma

Iyer(if fit)

Kishan

Parag

Allrounders

Hardik

Axar

Bowlers

Kuldeep

Bumrah

Siraj

Shami

Prasidh (if fit)

This is what I'm hoping for.  Ideally I want Kohli out but that's not going to happen. So, they should atleast make him and Sharma open.  Neither of them can accelerate against spin but can still play pace.

It was pathetic not to try out Jaiswal in the WI odis. Morons gave Axar Patel the no.4 spot but kept YJ on the bench for some brain dead reason only known to them. Should have tried out Tilak as well in the middle order... Absolute shitt heads

Jaiswal

Rohit

Kohli

Iyer/Gill

Tilak

Kishan/KL

Pandya

Look how versatile that batting line-up looks rather than the likely top 6 of all right handers and the tail starting at 7 with tuk tuk jaddu who has no business playing ODIs for us.

They should try out this top 6 at least in a couple of games in the Asia Cup. SKY has failed in ODIS. And I don't think there's a need for both geriatrics. Rohit is more explosive, especially against the short ball so he starts. Bowling should always have 3 frontline quicks.  7 & 8 should be any combination of Hardik/Kuldeep/Axar depending on pitch and conditions.

Rohit

Jaiswal

Shubman

Tilak

Parag

Kishan

We were awful between 1986-1995.

Kapil Dev who was operating at ATG level till '85 became a Jason Holder level all rounder post that. Gavaskar was on last leg and Amarnath purple patch was over. All we had was 2-3 above average players like Vengsarkar, Azharuddin and Sidhu.

1993 - 1996 World Cup era side was pretty good. Definitely on an upward curve. But the relentless schedule, nepotism, and rampant fixing threw us several years behind.
