Even Jhadav level won't hurt. THis TM messed up big time.

if we could play best 4 (shami/prasidh, siraj, bumrah, kuldeep) + pandu, we could get 46-48 reliable overs. all we needed was one part-timer who can bowl in top 6. this is where TM screwed up big time by not having SKY, Iyer, even Ro-Ko practice rolling their arms over.

I am of the opinion that Thakur is a very clutch player and he should be in the playing eleven.

Just ask him to work a bit more on his batting, he is not just a tonker, he has the ability to play sensible innings too!

Only if we had someone like Maxwell/Markram/Root, we can afford it. We don't have any. Asking our top order to bowl now will be solution looking for a problem. Just big no. 6 batters(Conservative top order)+ 2 AR +3 Bowlers would be fine, if they don't win the wc with this combination, they will have next 4 years to ponder over it.

The TM has prepared for going with 6 bowling options during the WC. Suddenly changing the combo unless someone is totally off colour so close to the WC will be a sing of panic. 

 

5 specialist batters (including the keeper) + Pandya + 2 out of Jadeja/ Shardul/ Axar/ Ashwin/ Sundar + 3 specialist bowlers (Bumrah, Siraj, Kuldeep)

We need two spinners in every match - Kuldeep is sure and Jadeja is also most likely to play .

He is a nothing player . He should have not selected for world cup .

Out of those 2 spinners, one is Kuldeep (as he is a must).    So basically we will be having 4 tailenders in playing11.  Huge gamble.

Disagree. If top 6 batsman cannot score, 7th will not do it either.

In our Super4 game vs SL, we were 187/9 at one stage.   Axar (no.8 batter) took us to 214.     Those 27 runs proved vital in the end.   (We won by 39 run)

I would go for a 7+4 combination, we definitely need batting depth as well as quality bowling at the same time (doesn't matter if bowler can't bat).

Ash (if replacing Axar) can make way for Shami on spin-friendly pitches in Chennai and Lucknow.

Siraj is the only non-batsman here as well (Shami, Kuldeep and Bumrah can bat a bit)

Btw, the balance improves with them in my opinion. You have enough options for 5th and 6th bowler and Hardik is more than good enough bat for #7 and Kapil also there at 8 who can just bat his natural self.

I too love this combo…. May be on swinging pitches play extra fast bowler in place of Ash.
