Dude can't hit at 7 with his current country bumpkin level technique but some want him to be a makeshift opener in a year when the new ball is swinging more than any year since ball tracking started?

Any gimmick to justify this guy's inclusion.

Shaheen averages 23.5 against LHB and 23.3 against RHB. I doubt jadeja would do much better against a new ball since he would have a lot less practice

Even if he lasts first over, he would be doing his job. Rohit is going to be sitting duck against that indipper.

Shaheen can be handled easier as ball gets older. He and Boult have this uncanny ability to strike in first over.

He offers nothing else with the bat...  Better should ask him to be a pinch hitter in PP.  I think he would clear the infield with his lofted shots that don't go for boundaries at the death.

If he gets out in 1st over even then we don't lose much.

But it would need a bold TM to use these tactics.

India is not talented or better than other teams. Tactics have to play a vital role if India has to win this world cup.

Last two Indian coaches (Shastri and Dravid)  always have been relucant to change tactics.

DK/Pant should have been sent in 2019 as  an opener with clear instruction to go after bowling from ball one, same thing with Pant in 2021 against England.

India has to do something different in knockout matches if it has to break the streak.

Ok but but most likely hrs gonna waste a few balls and then get out.

Set plans rarely win big games in KO as teams come prepared.  Method never wins big tournaments unless the team is overly talented & gulf with other sides is insurmountable.

Tactics must always be to surprise opponent in big games.

Hence strict instructions are needed.  A player like him needs a kick up their backside.

Upto Captain & Coach to do this.

I don't think they will do any of that sorts unless he badly fails & costs India a game or 2 in group stage.

Ball will swing only under lights. So the strategy depends upon the score we're chasing

if its 240-250, not a bad idea to send someone to see off the new ball.

Otherwise you have to back the main guys to do the job.

Spot on, Dravid like an idiot kept on opening with KL Rahul even though he stunk for majority of t20 world cup.Pant was sitting there , I am not saying Pant would have won that match but he surely would have done better than Rahul in a crunch match.

KL Rahul will remain timid no matter how many years he plays, same with Rohit and Indian top order, they won't suddenly develop ability to play swing bowling.

Tactics and coaching have to help them overcome their weaknesses and surprise opposing teams.

I would send Jadeja in that case.He is not going to do much anyway down the order.

If India has to win this world cup.Coaching has to play a vital role. Both Shastri and Dravid in his tenure  have never shown any out of the box thinking.

No shame is changing the batting lineup to counteract  the strength of opposing team.

If coaches cannot assess the conditions and help team adapt then what is point in having them.

LOL no coach would take such a gamble of sending Jadeja to open suddenly in a world cup game against Pakistan. Even a coach like Baz Mccullum will not take such risk. It is madness and not out of the box thinking.

Ishan Kishan can open or sure and Gill move down the order. But don't think he will be in playing XI over KL Rahul.

Martin Crowe opened with bowling with Patel and let Greatbatch go for leather from ball one in 1992 world cup.

Everything is madness until you try it.

Jadeja is good enough batsmen to handle new ball.He is not going to win matches batting at number 7 as we saw in last match.

India might as well use him where he can make a difference. No harm in trying once.

QDK is completely wiped out. Totally exhausted. He is still trying to continue. He is on his haunches. Why is he batting? This is warm up.

Now got hit on the head by Mitchell  What are you doing man.  He is unable to barely stand.

That's the issue with the South Africans. They give their all when it doesn't matter as much and then get exhausted by the time it matters...

Ian smith is bewildered by his choice to continue batting despite finding himself barely being able to stand. Whole idea of Warm up is to get a hit not win the match.

Bangladesh have  completely changed their approach with respect to bowling. Before bowling to them meant spinners bowling for most of their innings, now I am waiting for a spinner to be brought on but they continue with one pacer after another.  Hasan, Shoriful, Taskin, Tanzim .

And their Pacers continue to strike. Development of fast bowlers is necessary to win consistently at International level. It seems like Bangladesh is now operating at a higher level than before.
