He is stand by keeper and will play when Pant is not playing. He never was better than Sarfraz to be played as batsman when Sarfraz was in the squad.

Jurel is a better batsman than sarfraz except maybe on flat pitches ,Sarfraz has too many weaknesses and will struggle in SENA big time.

Jurel's 90 and 40 on that ranchi turner was a stuff of legends !

His keeping is bang average though ,needs massive improvement

Jurel is a high potential batter.

Have trust on him and he will give solid returns. Easily a 45 avging batter, I see shades of Damien Martyn in him.

 

Has the skill in him to be a no 5 batter along with Pant at 6. Keeping duties they can mutually decide who will take up.

 

Jurel is tailor made for ODIs and Tests...T20s is his weakest format as he is too orthodox. But we shouldn't throw him out of tests just because he is a keeper and we already have another keeper in the XI.

Yes he's good high ceiling guy,easily could've at 5

Can walk alone as batsman,if people here prefer Sai given more chances then this guy deserves even more for he has already shown enough spark

you want to be careful about taking keeping duties away from pant and picking him as a batter only. if keeping is a part of his dual identity taking it away can mess his batting up. ask him basically

Jurel is a very likeable cricketer, ticks most boxes and will get backed by lots of coaches and captains due to his adaptability. Is a solid backup to Pant.

 

However, for someone with just 1 FC 100 despite his strong FC record) to be seen as a specialist batsman is pushing it a bit too far, despite his Emg series heroics last year. For that to happen, he needs to produce a 700-800 run FC season with 3-4 FC 100s.

 

BTW he will compete vs Aryan Juyal for a UP Ranji team slot. Juyal has a better FC record, from little I have seen videos him , looks to be a better keeper and could very well jump the queue soon.

Idea is to give him gloves and make Pant a specialist bat. Not make Jurel a specialist bat.

Both Juyal and Jurel are in similar age group.

Though I have seen Juyal bat from the videos.. Jurel looks more technically solid off the two.  And boy has backfoot play to boot 

 

More importantly temperament matters.  Jurel has sense of calm in his batting style.

Very few young players show this quality at this age.

Excluding this test against SA, Dhruv Jurel has played 8 tests and averages 41.54 with the bat.

Can Jurel bat at 3? While trying why not try that too. Hope he can be more responsible? Drop Sai and Jurel and bring in some new guys who does well in domestic. Ofcourse some basic eye test has to be done through trial.
