Kuldeep has performed in Tests whenever he played. Once he was dropped straight after getting MOTM. Ashwin needs to move aside now. Kuldeep was fine in the final given the wet conditions. Also produced an edge. Ashwin went for over 7 RPO in CT 17 finals yet you are happy to have him just coz he's senior Do you have anyone better who can bowl their 4 overs and offer something with bat other than these three? Siraj does not deserve any place in any Indian team.He has become Bhuvi of this era somehow automatic selection. Kuldeep was dropped unfairly that does not mean Ashwin has to move aside for him.Ashwin has done nothing to lose his spot in test cricket.Last time I checked he was doing very well in test cricket. How did he bowl in semifinals ,Kuldeep was supposed to be our trump card in wet conditions also but he did not do much there either.
LordPrabhzy Posted May 16, 2024 Posted May 16, 2024 They have no succession plan after Broad/Anderson. It could have been Archer and Wood but they are perennially injured. apart from that who are their pacers? Robinson? Tongue?

Anderson is the most overrated bowler ever - guy literally is the alltime greatest home bully, failing to average below 30 in tests practically everywhere outside of England. I rate home bullies, especially if they are as dominant as Anderson, Broad, Herath, Sehwag, Ashwin, Jadeja. Heck I'll rate Philander above several greats because how ruthlessly dominant he was on RSA pitches.
Nikola Posted May 16, 2024 Posted May 16, 2024 Probably should have retired a year ago or at max after ashes with broad. England has got a huge gap to fill for home conditions now. nevada 1

Home track bully or not, an average of 36 against Aussies and 30 against South Africa isn't justified as most English cricket fans call him ATG. Not to forget he mostly faced a weak Australian team except for the 2006 tour and still has been so poor both at home and away. Suhaan 1
putrevus Posted May 17, 2024 Posted May 17, 2024 Anderson is very overrated, he did improve in later part of his career but I would not call him a great fast bowler. nevada 1

The whole revolution in world test cricket is because of him. The fast scoring started after him. He had centuries in NZ, SA , Eng Australia Ultimate_Game 1

I am fine with that selection but selection of a guy who may bowl 4 overs in. In ten matches over a guys like Jadeja and Pandya will not work. Ashwin needs to play as long as he is effective at home . Kuldeep is never going to replace a legend like Ashwin.Forget what Ashwin does with bat , bowling wise also I don’t think Kuldeep is better than Ashwin. kuldeep was one of the reasons why India did not defend that total. He stunk in finals and semifinal too.

Jadeja can stay (perhaps till 2025 end) because of his batting and fitness/fielding, also he is younger. (38 year old) Ashwin should be clearly told to announce retirement this home season, maybe a final test in Chepauk against NZ. Not just Ashwin, time to look beyond Rohit, Shami as well. Also being a wrist spinner, he'll be far more useful overseas. Already has a fifer overseas which Jaddu/Ash haven't managed throughout their careers.

I disagree, Ashwin was better than Kuldeep and still is better than him atleast in home conditions. .Ashwin as a total package is nearly impossible to replace. Let Kuldeep be the third spinner for one more home season. When Ashwin wants to retire should be left to him.He has done nothing wrong to be replaced at home.
deepdynamo Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 All seniors will target WTC 25 Final. Beyond that, Ashwin can be first to retire but may play as home spinner only for few series. Jadeja will definitely play in 25-27 cycle as second spinner home & away. Shami is a hit or miss based on fitness. But can play overseas test on series to series basis. But two years max for him from now. Rohit will definitely not play much beyond WTC 25. Maybe a farewell home series. Kohli will play till 2027 ( ODI WC included )

Whatever happens but let's NOT play one player in all 3 formats. I know that's too much to ask from BCCI who instead of developing a winning team is more focused on selected marketable individuals.

I disagree with you there, Head , Cummins, even Marsh play all formats. When you have player who is good enough to play all three formats and willing to play, denying those players a chance to play all formats is wrong. To me you need more multiformat players or you will be left with guys like Pujara who will kill Test cricket. We are already seeing how Impact player rule is wreaking havoc. You need multi skilled and multiformat players. They bring exictement to viewers . I am not defending BCCI here but it has done nothing majorly wrong in my opinion other than fighting for favorable scheduling for the team.It has been giving time to all local tournaments. Its teams have been at the top of rankings and getting to knockout in all formats. The only thing they have not done is win the trophies. It is more on players than BCCI. Sooner or later things will turn.Trophies will come.It took Australia 2021 to win t20 title. They had lot better t20 players than the team which won the title in past. Scheduling is where BCCI need to put their foot down and give its team fair chances, ECB are crooks, they have always looked after their own interests. Edited May 20, 2024 by putrevus
