BacktoCricaddict Posted June 8, 2024 Posted June 8, 2024 https://www.livescience.com/archaeology/neanderthals-and-humans-interbred-47000-years-ago-for-nearly-7000-years-research-suggests Quote Neanderthal genes seen in modern humans may have entered our DNA through an interval of interbreeding starting about 47,000 years ago that lasted nearly 7,000 years, new research finds. Neanderthals were among the closest extinct relatives of modern humans (Homo sapiens), with the ancestors of both lineages diverging about 500,000 years ago. More than a decade ago, scientists revealed that Neanderthals interbred with the ancestors of modern humans who migrated out of Africa. Today, the genomes of modern human populations outside Africa contain about 1% to 2% of Neanderthal DNA. Researchers are still unsure about when and where Neanderthal DNA made its way into the modern human genome. For instance, did Neanderthals and modern humans intermingle at one specific place and time outside Africa, or did they interbreed at many places and times? The impact of each group, religion, civilization, culture, heritage, tradition etc. etc. that exists today will be obliterated in the next 50,000 years. What the eff are we fighting about? Just do things to be compassionate and maximize the survival and happiness of every human upon whom you have an impact today - regardless of their denomination or perceived "group". Don't fret over in- and out-groups, because in 50,000 years, your descendants may be interbreeding with space aliens. Prakat 1

BacktoCricaddict Posted June 8, 2024 Author Posted June 8, 2024 I think part of what I am trying to do here is to see if we can get over our preconceived pop-culture notion that Neandarthals were somehow "inferior" to us. If one reads the article, it is clear that humans and Neandarthals originated from a common ancestor, lived simultaneously for 10s of 1000s of years, were close enough genetically that, when they met, they interbred, but the Neandarthal species faded away - most-likely due to a disease they could not fight off. coffee_rules, Vickydev and Nikhil_cric 3

They do, too, but it was a more recent back-migration 20,000 years ago and not from mating with Neandarthals. https://www.science.org/content/article/africans-carry-surprising-amount-neanderthal-dna Bottom line: Our intuitive view of human identities is too simplistic and each one of us is genetically far too complex and diverse to fit in any identity-box. Muloghonto Posted June 8, 2024 Posted June 8, 2024 i read a while ago that from northern iraq or turkey, a whole bunch of neanderthal and human settlements close to each other were found. upon doing genetic analysis, one interesting thing was noted - that the homo sapiens and neanderthals did intermingle, with dna coming from sites as far away as 40 kms. But interestingly, the river that seperated them showed homo sapiens had DNA input from only homo sapiens from across the river sites and neanderthals show zero genetic input from either neanderthal or homo sapiens from across the river. This lead to the conclusion that one of the most decisive edge homo sapiens had over neanderthals is ability to ford water. Perhaps we were smart enough to build rafts but neanderthals were not.

Descendents of homosapiens and Neanderthals back migrated into Africa as the link says. Naturally, Neanderthal component will less in Africans compared to Europeans and East Asians. Look at this one ... Pharma sales rep go visit doctors and pay them to give preference to their drugs even though another 2 different drugs from different companies do the same thing. Purdue Pharma and it's oxycodone contributed to opioid crisis in USA. There is no bias in the interbreeding of Neanderthals and homo sapiens because this is not a drug business and this research has no monetary benefits to any company Again I ask how can you be so sure? I like how this has turned into a quasi race theory discussion. It was always the point of such "findings" - to let your mind wander in a circle like the hamster in a wheel. This news is not new. Its been there for a decade. I also know africans supposedly don't have much "neanderthal mix". What follows then is the correlation of them having low iq is blamed on not having those neanderthal genes . but our resident sCiEnTiSt would say "correlation is not causation". But that thought is already circulating in your mind because they put it there.

Then you doubted the interbreeding of homosapiens and Neanderthals. Both of them are proven wrong. Now you share a video on the drug bias of physicians. None of them co-relate to anything to the news discussed here. Now you bring up the relation between Neanderthal and African iq. You are going off on all different angles. Science has saved millions of lives. I am one of them. I'm not bringing that up. I'm saying there are chances that some race theorist will bring that up. BTW you brought up africans and their lack of neanderthal genes not me. Needless to say this is old news regurgitated. Its hard to believe in science when agenda pushers and lobbying agents are behind what gets published or not. In that video, Jason Fung makes an important point that even good doctors believe waht comes out of prestigious journals and prescribe dodgy medicines. Someone who knows medicine and are honest to their work still rely on journals. Why? Trust and lack of time. You seem to trust them. I don't after this scam they pulled over the entire world which lasted for well over a few years. You may say thats covid. this is archaelogy. what gives? this still gets publshed in the same journals, which are peer reviewed, evidence based, well trusted (by who? and why should I care?). science has been tarnished by these gits for all eternity that when I hear the words "scientifically proven", I will do anything to tear it down and rip it to pieces Its better to start from scratch. You have to question even the old bones of neanderthals to restart. Whether such a creature existed? and how do they managed to find out the genome of a creature that doesn't exist at the moment of discovery? and how can they find out which is a human genes and which one is foreign (neanderthal) genes within a human genome (thereby proving these genes are foreign)? These are valid questions, no? Vicks57 1
