Bumrah: Is it one of (if not the) greatest individual performance in what is a team game

We are taught that cricket is a team game and it’s true.  Extraordinary players can dominate the game but its not often can you say that a single player was the reason that a game was won against the run of play.  I have bolded the words I wanted to focus on

Jasprit Bumrah yesterday pulled off what I believe is the single greatest individual performance I have seen in my lifetime.

We’ve all seen the games. I won’t say much there.  Except that the game was utterly lost before he came.  He, and only he, took us to a position from where we could win in 12 balls.  You spend pages talking about even ball he bowled, how the set batsmen reacted.

Some other memorable performances come to mind. Ambrose 7/1 - but that pitch!   Kumble all 10 wickets in a Test win against Pakistan, but S Ramesh and Ganguly also came up trumps.

I can’t seem to recall where one individual has so excelled that they changed a team game completely from a sure loss to a win.

Botham in 1981 at Headingley?

Crazy he didn't get MOTM. That spell on that pitch in that situation is one for the ages

Totally agree.

MOTM was IMO a political decision; since Bumrah has the tournament award, give his one to Kohli.

How was he the MOM. He rightly was not given MOM. Arshdeep took as many wickets and was economical too.

Pandya took the biggest wicket. Bumrah was rightly declared MOS.

It's not just about wickets but the manner in which they are taken and runs conceded.

Arsh/Pandya were supporting acts.

Bumrah bowled 16th over and  was negotiated with  care but  they had no major hiccups. If Pandya does not get that wicket of Klassan, they would be no win for India.

That is the turning point of the match,

Bumrah was rightly not given MOM.

He was the reason we won the world cup, and the MVP of the tourney. He was the person the team turned to everytime we needed some magic and he consistently delivered! Never seen any player, forget a bowler, own the big moments and the tourney to such an extent.

Bumrah should be wrapped in wool and we should play him only in select series to maximize his longevity. He deserves more than one tourney and I'm sure he'll get a couple more at least by the time he's done

lol Klaasen got out because of bumrah over he gave four runs only. Klaasen sees a wide ball and chases it and got out and then they choke.

I don't think so.It has got nothing to with Bumrah's over. They just need 26 or 24. There was no scoreboard pressure.

What was he doing laying eggs in 2016 ,2017 ,2019 , 2023 and ICC test finals in 2021. It was his coming out party on the big stage too shedding the choker tag .

He got major help from Arshdeep and Pandya in this match.

2016 was solely in Rahane he scored under par bumrah also just started in the team.
2017 he got fakar but bowled no ball. India also selected bhuvi who was useless instead of shami.

2019 he was our most economical bowler when opposition scored 330 and took a wicket as well.

2023 the amount of runs we scored were not even par. He was our best bowler that day but didn’t knicks to slip.

Every bowler need support then only team can win. If other bowler can’t keep it tight it will not work.

He never got any help from Bhuvi just like Kohli never got any help from others till this t20 world cup. That is why it is a team game.

He was great this tournament but he got plenty of help too.He was rightly MOS.

That is why he was not MOM yesterday too.

what do you see in this score card ? I see Kohli playing slow. Pandya had 190 strike rate. Another Kohli slow 50. The guy is never suited for t20s.

The whole game turned on Bumrah’s third and fourth overs.  It stopped an SA momentum that was looking unstoppable, reversed the direction of play, created the conditions for the wickets to follow. The SA bat just could not get going against him, when the previous over Agar had been absolutely hammered and the game seemed lost.

How was it anything, if Klassan was not getting out. He was making the runs easy in other remaining overs.

Every seamer was great.Bumrah was standout bowler in the whole world cup. But yesterday he had company from both Pandya and Arshdeep.

Arshdeep took more vital wickets Dekock's wicket, Pandya took the game changing wicket.

Terrible batting by Sharma and Kohli. Sharma changed his approach after this with some success, but Kohli couldn’t till the very end.

Kohli has lot of blind fans and they don’t acknowledge this fact.

Bumrah won the cup. Simple he was motm mots everything. Every game unplayable every batsman utterly dominated or kept quite or stopped immediately after a slight reversal. Every game a break through, every game a dramatic winning point. Not sure how anyone can be more gun.
