Definitely pooks lol Luck definitely an issue with him. I have no doubts had he survived a little more he would have made up for those dot balls in the finals. 66 (107) could be 85(120) which would look respectable and make him a MOTM contender had we won. But out of nowhere Starc bowled a fcking huge reverse swinger.. unplayable. How unlucky one has to be to get that kind of a delivery on that surface. Edited July 9, 2024 by Number Kron 1

While Shreyas is decent to good against specific oppositions/conditions, Venky Iyer seems to have a the game and mindset for most conditions and bowling variations looking equally comfortable against pace and bounce as well as spin. And he can also go toe to toe with the senior Iyer in terms of explosiveness. Jaiswal Gill Sai Sudarshan Venky Iyer Pant Rinku I will like to give that batting lineup a shot for 12-15 ODIs and see how it works. I wouldn't mind going with Venky either as he was treated unfairly the last time he was given a chance. He was pretty decent but was discarded, and deserved a longer run. But in ODIs I would still prefer Shreyas Iyer for 2 reasons: 1. He has the game for ODIs and Venky's performances are mostly in T20s and that's where I would prefer Venky over Shreyas. For me Venky in T20Is and Shreyas in ODIs. 2. Shreyas had a pretty decent ODI WC in 2023 and in fact was our middle order enforcer. It was his knock in SF which put the game past NZ else we were pottering to a score of 330 before he started attacking. He got out for a duck in the final but he was trying to be aggressive. You can't penalize a batsman for playing aggressively when that is exactly what's missing from our team. nitinbwj 1

Good fast bowling always troubles him express bowling 1

Good fast bowling always troubles him Good fast bowling troubles almost everyone but I see lot more pluses with Shreyas Iyer. He was the only middle order batsman in the ODI WC who took on the bowlers and played aggressively. After Rohit, Iyer was the only one who took risks and went after the bowling. Kohli and KL Rahul were steady and never really took too many risks. I've a soft spot for team players and Iyer was one, and in a way he was more Raina than Kohli/KL. Always good to have such players in the team.
IndianRenegade Posted July 9, 2024 Posted July 9, 2024 How is KL a captain material in anyones eyes? he has always shat his bed in pressure situations, how does anyone imagine him to lead the team in KO games in ICC tournaments? singhvivek141 and Gollum 2

SA ODI wickets lack the movement their Test pitches have but there's still bounce on offer. He has failed in ODIs whenever he played in SA and Australia . And he doesn't bowl or keep wickets like KL. If theres an argument against KL, then I'm not sure how Iyer fits considering the World Cup is in SA. Having said that, a fit and in form Iyer can do real damage in CT because Pakistan has the lowest bouncing pitches in the world.

LordPrabhzy Posted July 9, 2024 Posted July 9, 2024 What are these 3 going to do for 2.5 months till the Bangladesh tests start? They need to play some sort of cricket even a bit in Aug- if they are in the UK for holidays, then why not Frustrated 1

Seldomly we have done it in history Iyer is so bad against short deliveries that even an ICC monitored sporting pitch will cause him trouble Nikhil_cric 1
Frustrated Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 (edited) Why do some posters want S Iyer back? The guy is so trash against quality pace in general & slower off cutters (or bouncers in particular) that he is likely to struggle even on flat asian pattas. WC2023 Final is a testimony to that. He didn't last 5 balls. All he needed to do was anchor the inning for next 10-15 overs. (Ind were 65/2 in 9 overs when this Fraud arrived at the crease) Edited July 10, 2024 by Frustrated
