This is fake news, saw a video by journalist Mansoor Ali Khan - he spoke to Nadeem and rebuked those rumors, he has a sponsorship with Toyota international and also has support from the athletics federation and sports ministry.

All this drama of having no money is pure PR stuff to gather sympathy. Arshad Nadeem has been competing at professional level since 2015 as he came from age group. Must have had some sponsorships from companies. Plus he is a WAPDA employee. An Olympic style javelin costs approx 1000 Euros (Nordic Brand). That's not impossible for govt authorities to fund. I understand he lacked initial support for training, came from a humble background. His father has been a construction worker. I am just unable to understand this notion that why he didn't have money to buy javelin. Heck he should be able to afford his own Javelin because he must have one prizes at different competition.

That’s what Neeraj said that he has sponsorship now that he has a few medals, Pak should support more like India does

Don't think it works that way. A sustained investment builds up the program which takes time (easily decade or more), and which eventually starts delivering medals.

 

Secondly, I doubt these numbers are accurate. The govt may have allocated this much funding but not all of it would've gone to the players or used as intended. You're not factoring the amount of money politicians, babus, and local sports organizations gobbled up. I won't be surprised if only 20-30% of this funding actually reached the players.

I want to compare the viewership of Tokyo Olympics and Paris Olympics. More viewership suggests more interest, more people putting their sons and daughters into Olympic sports professionally in future, hopefully people would do it as a responsibility towards the country. The 6-7 medals , the 10 odd near misses is not good enough for a country like ours.

This mindset of seeing only the other Indians as your competition needs to change. Our athletes become complacent once they reach the top in India and stop striving to be the best in the world. This kind of mindset pervades in every organisation be it in sports, movies, corporations etc. Reason why we do not see world class athletes, products and services, movies etc. This needs to change.

You are eight. Media loves exaggerating  and so do people. Simple stuff like this sells well.  Our Yashasvi Jaiswal story also gets exaggerated too, probably not so much any more since he has estakished himself now in IPl and played a bit for India, but earlier it was exaggeratee a lot, pure time pani puri bechta tha and bs like that.
