Read on reddit that it could be related to mental illness - depression. He was suicidal. Not sure though. But the complete hush hush on the cause of death is weird.

This is very sad! Such a shame that he couldn't find a reason to live.

Suicides because of depression is a very serious issue especially among males. 

Even in India a lot of men take their own lives because of financial or family problems.

That's not how depression works. The chemical in your brain misfires and you cannot think properly or judge things. Even family seems stranger, nothing gives you joy in life. 

 

Asking a depressed person to just find a reason to live is like asking a cancer patient to just run a race. They are physically incapable of doing so. 

 

We have made so much progress in medicines for physical ailments but brain is still such a mystery to us.

For men it's even more difficult as we are taught from young to not show our emotions and be strong no matter what. So men are less likely to seek help or even share such issues with others.

Desperately sad news.  I knew he'd been taken ill about two years ago and was is hospital.  I though it might have been cancer or something similar.  It was actually a previous suicide attempt.

 

I grew up watching Thorpe play on free-to-air television.  He had so much to the offer the game.
