That ship has sailed. Enough time given for that. He's not gonna improve at this age.

Some false information there.

 

He was moved from middle order to open not to find a place for him but because he is the guy that India believes in to adapt against the new ball in pace friendly conditions. Now, it is not an easy job and there are days when he will fail but nobody else has shown enough merit outside Asia.

 

He is a good batter outside Asia and way better player in those conditions than other Indian players like Sarfaraz who was not even chosen above DDP. That itself gives you an idea of his game vs pace.
 

Pant and KL are the only two Indian batters with some success outside Asia in last few years and hence they deserve a place in XI but yeah don’t expect too much. We don’t have that much quality.

There are designated openers in the squad like Easwaran. KL was moved specifically because he doesn't merit a place otherwise in the middle with both Jurel and Sarfaraz doing better in recent past.

forget the batting average. kl was instrumental (along with rohit)  in one of our greatest tours ever in England in 2021. same with pujara in aus. batting is mostly an exercise in failure. but can you impact a test series on your day?

Such an enigma. He hasn't given a sniff to the best ever Aus attack on a frigging Perth track in 250+ balls he has faced, considering he was given out wrongly first innings.

When you see things like these you wonder why he isn't among the best batsman in the world.

He should have stopped playing LOIs long back. I do not think he has the ability to switch between formats. He could have been like Pujara playing in single track mode.  Had he done that he would have slightly had a better test career. May be tick over 40 average? He still had a lot of technical issues at the start of his career. Especially balls that come back into him. At one point he was getting bowled a lot of times by playing inside hte line.

What designated opener? Nobody has faith in Easwaran. He is utterly mediocre which is why team management want favour from KL for this role and he is seen as the most competent overseas batsman in recent times. The hundred he got in South Africa on such a treacherous pitch is the kind of knock which no other Indian batter can play on current form. In that same series, Jaiswal, Gill and everyone failed.

 

Yes we saw what DDP did but the fact that a guy who hit 150 in last series was not backed and instead they played DDP who has done nothing in this game shows how bad he was in the nets and why he was not even considered for selection for these conditions. When he got that 150, he gave enough evidence there only how bad he was vs quality pace with the new ball. If he was good enough, he would have played in the team and not dropped while three more players being picked instead of him( KL, Jurel, Paddikal).

 

kL at the moment is India’s best batter overseas along with Pant and deserves to be persisted. Sarfaraz, Easwaran, DDP and Shreyas are all mediocre and will have to work hard to have a long test career because they are simply poor overseas.

Why is Easwaran selected if there is no faith? and why isnt there faith but faith is there in a failed MO player to open who has failed everytime in Aus? Easwaran is compact and has earned his chances by performing in FC. What more he needs to do?

Those guys you named havent even got a proper chance let alone overseas, Even KL was poor at the start and then improved overseas. Now I'm not saying to select these guys specifically but idea is to move on from KL, not making a place for him outta nowhere. There are other talented guys like Sai Sudarshan for instance waiting for their due chance.

That 18 average is pre comeback.

 

He also sucked in Eng and SA pre comeback but has done well there post 21.

KL is still 32. Squeeze out 3-4 good years like Rohit post 2019 (or Khawaja for that matter)

 

His failures in Aus are mostly in 2018. He also failed in SA and Eng in 18 but did well in these countries post 21.

 

An opener who can play in SENA is not so easily found.

They are going horses for courses which is good.

 

Paddikal was good in the first Ind A match on a tough wicket. Jurel similarly in the 2nd.

 

Same with Rana/NKR.
