Bumrah's captaincy

if bumrah told kohli to get on with it coz we're declaring, kohli's statement that he didn't want to just hang around, i take pride blah blah would be a wierd thing to say, which is entirely possible!

The guy showed "bat" to umpire when he reverse swept to Lyon to count as his runs.. So much for his pride thing. Few yrs ago, even I used to fall for this. Even Bumrah's wife is there. She is also celeb. He doesn't do drama and theatrics like him. Good knock but unnecessary theatrics should be avoided.

Drama queen lol Scoring his third century in 5 years. He is giving speech like Martin Luther king.

To be honest, I dont put lot of importance on this century. One occasion where India would be safe without it too. If this century helps him get back to form and get a 2nd life of 2-3 years then it will be worth something. Otherwise if he goes missing again in the collapses, it does not mean much in the bigger picture.

We need the hard runs from him as he is the most experienced player along with being the most marketed.

It came only because pitch was flattened out and he came in at 250-2 or something. Hard runs are beyond him now

I am sure of that but since he can't be dropped, I hope he gets some good score more frequently in important situations. Today India possibly would get to 400 without him. Australians were already tired out, pitch flat and good batting conditions.

Also any captain is an improvement over Rohit at this point. lol

he needs to be in the slipstream of another more effective batter to score runs - and you know what? thats not the worst thing.  Its ok to accept that he's past his prime.

There were a lot of positives for him and India in this knock - he will take a lot of confidence from this for the rest of the series.

Kudos to him for the gritty knock. It is especially commendable coming at a time when he has obviously been struggling for form - it is easier when you are riding a high, but not so much when you're down. It also came at a time when when the team needed it in order to get a firm grip of the match - so hatsoff.

This knock could be split into the following.

1. His arrival and the earlier part of the innings,  he didn’t have scorboard pressure because lead was already pretty good.  However,  It was that brand new ball, just 6 overs in, so that was that slight bit of challenge if anything but still not much pressure to negate for him.

2. His runs between 30 to 80 were the most valuable more than the century,  as at that time the pitch had started to look it was deteriorating as ball had started keeping low etc. Lyon too was turning sharp now hitting some cracks. So to me this is the phase which one should be happy about that he didn’t get those out of the world dismissal happen that time. Good he survived and scored runs in this phase, and not vet out like he did back home.

3. 80-100 -  he scored those runs in ODI style knock against Marnus who was only bowling since Cummins didn’t wanna get his seamers injured before next test as writing was on the wall by then for them. So not much to write about this phase as it wasn’t anything special phase in his batsmanship.

All in all, he lived up to his role in this innings. On the back of great start given by Rahul and Jaiswal, him clicking and closing shop on Australia with his knock is a good sign for Indian cricket. Hopefully that continues.

yeah but youngsters won't be leading the charge everytime. We need experienced guys to step up not youngsters. It should be reversed.

Winning the first match of a test-series is a bit of new territory for Indian teams traveling abroad. They need to put this on the backburner and look ahead!

Actually bad captaincy is called out. Same way good captaincy should be credited. Bumrah did make some errors like giving an overly defensive field set when Sundar bowled. Almost all Indian captains use spinners as a defensive option overseas. Not offensive options. They are reluctant to give attacking fields even when a btasman like Starc bats.
