He was a RBI governor as well under Indira Gandhi rule. Thats how he got picked a FM in 1991 by PVNR. A Gandhi loyalist till the end. Even Pranabda revolted after being the President. .

When you live long enough in public life, there will be some degree of disagreements. But broadly this was a great man. I voted for him in 2009 because he held fort for nuclear deal while there were many ready to jeopardize. For me, thats his legacy. 1991 reforms too, but that was courage of PV who backed him. 

 

Like any Congress talent apart from PV, his subservience to the family disrupted his reputation. But he was a man of great dignity. Rest well. India will never forget.

should have stuck to FM type positions
