Karun Nair has earned a recall into the ODI set up, maybe?

Karun Nair for Eng ODIs

  1. 1. Based on his complete obliteration of domestic attacks in the recent VHT, should Karun Nair be recalled for the Eng ODI series?

In the hindsight how big a blunder it turned out to be to drop a triple centurion for noone but Ajinkya Rahane.

Rahane had a godly avg for a long time and that was down in no small part to many impressive innings in SENA conditions, which is rare for an Indian batter especially. From that period not many batsmen made it into the Indian team other than Shaw, Vihari and Agarwal.

He should be given some more opportunities as compared to his state mate Rahul. Looks like Rahul ate up his own quota of opportunities and also ate up Karun's quota despite doing nothing.

KL Rahul escapes criticism always it is poor Rahul. Enough of the sympathy and he scores in one innings and goes missing. He keeps getting selected. He seems like the new Rohit sharma

At least Rohit Sharma is great ODI player. KL Rahul on the other hand has done nothing of note across all formats on any consistent basis.

He won't be selected based on one season VH.

Yes but that's normal for new players in first couple of series. No one is saying he was dropped immediately, people are saying a triple centurion was not given enough chances

When we have seniors sucking for 5+ years it's weird people think 3 matches after a triple 100 is enough to forever drop a youngster.

So he played exactly 4 innings after that triple 100 before being dropped forever. 4 freaking innings.

Massive injustice but what hurt his chances the most was that he was inconsistent in domestics post that drop.

Once you make 300, there is a certain branding attached to you.

So your domestic performances get noticed more easily.

If he slammed some centuries there, he would have been in the reckoning.

Doesn't justify his drop but pointing out that he didnt exactly make his case.

And in 2017, we didnt have any leeches in the team. The downfall started later.

Main thing is Indian selectors were dumb too they selected test and loi players based on IPL pujara was the exception.

You can see the complete list here. If you look at the top of the list most o fthe high scores for a season happened in the last 5 years. Even the oldies like Manish Pandey, Abhinav Mukund made waves in 2019 season. For the record ABhinav Mukund made highest runs in 2009 VH. After 10 years he is making runs again. It only points to tracks getting flatter.

Nair = the new Mike Hussey?  :woot:

Nair’s scores in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy are 112*, 44*, 163*, 111*, 112*, 122*. It is also the most runs scored by a batter in the history of List A cricket without losing his wicket.

Nair can be a wildcard option for captaincy :woot:

If Karun Nair/ DK are knocking/breaking doors with 2.0 versions on their own bcci must be able to do something to help other discarded players.

Hate to waste such a rich vein of form: BCCI should take note and have him in the ODI squad against England. We should be picking in-form players rather than going by historical reputation.

Karun Nair and Mayank Aggarwal both are damn good players of spin.

Might have struggled abroad, but we won't have lost 0-3 to NZ with them.

we might have do horses for courses approach for Tests,if you cant play spin you should not be picked for SC tests.

has anyone seen him bat on those dinky grounds where 30yard circle and boundary are 5 steps apart ?

more concerning is the TOTAL lack of quality in almost all bowlers,we are in for a rough ride in Tests for a while when we have no domestic fast bowling talent

yes we do it for bowlers already why not batsman?

Heck even Shreyas Iyer would have been better than some in NZ series

Indeed, if not pick them, release them so they can play in other leagues abroad and earn some money. But BCCI has not been kind to tier 2 players who don't have a chance to get picked in the national side.
