Adamant Posted January 19, 2025 Posted January 19, 2025 1 hour ago, New guy said: He was dropped after exactly 4 innings after 300. He came in different weird situations in those 4 innings, sometimes asked to just hit to set a target with no time to settle. He batted at no 6 and no 7 in 3 out of those 4 innings when his 300 was at no 5. He got out twice to spin (once stumped while trying to hit a 6) and twice against ball reversing a lot. How is that being "exposed"? He didn't fall for short ball or any obvious weakness in any of those 4 innings. He still scored 23 and 26 it in 2 of those 4 innings. That's not called being "exposed". That's not enough to judge someone who scored 300, particularly just playing second series. Even many greats have failed first couple of series. Kohli couldn't put bat to ball in his first English series. Stop being pedantic or contrary for the sake of being pedantic, it's just attention seeking at this point. Look at his domestic record after that, it was average. People like you who just think in terms of fairness/unfairness are usually cricket illiterate, talent is unfair, BCCI and the TM understood his capabilities after analysing his technique and play and deemed him not good enough to continue.
Lord Posted January 19, 2025 Posted January 19, 2025 52 minutes ago, Adamant said: This is the biggest bakwass I have heard here, KL Rahul got continuous backing and kept on producing middling performances, Kohli isn't the reason why KL is a mental midget. No it isn't. KL used to be a free flowing batsman but as soon he got started succeeding, games started. After a bumper series v Aus 2017 he was randomly dropped for Kohli's Delhi mate Shikhar. Then KL was shunted up and down the order in both formats never allowing him to settle. KL also is to be blamed for being not mentally tough enough to deal with all this. But he wasn't 'backed' in true sense. He was just there.

Why the record 'after' it is relevant? He should never have been dropped in first place. Kohli also failed in that series. One series is never enough. He probably lost motivation after being dropped and FC numbers dwindled. Very natural as you are left disillusioned after being dropped despite a triple ton just one series ago. New guy and Number 2
figo6762 Posted January 19, 2025 Posted January 19, 2025 Use fatso’s argument against him .. hey idiot if you don’t have time to play domestic cricket , then you will dropped based on international form across formats . That should free up spots for players … honestly India should have a team for each format … selectors don’t have the balls ..

Gollum Posted January 19, 2025 Posted January 19, 2025 Think Karun Nair failed in 3 or 4 innings post the 300. And never looked out of depth there, got a couple of 20s before some loose shots. Happens. Shouldn't have been discarded so easily, maybe lost motivation after that. Will a Mumbaikar be dropped so easily after scoring 300 against England? Heck Rohit the test bat was a proper clown till 2019.

How can you ask for his inclusion on the basis of one bumper season alone without suggesting who he replaces. Also, ignoring him is not about not valuing domestic cricket because the ones who are getting a chance ahead of him have not only done well in domestic cricket but also international cricket. The outrage should be if someone who has not been in the reckoning comes into the picture without performances or performances inferior to him. Till then, crying foul about Nair's exclusion is just white noise Yes, Kohli has done fabulously in domestic cricket in last 10 years! What has KL Rahul done in internationals with so many chances? It's not just Nair, but nobody in the team has been selected based on the recently concluded VH Trophy. The selections were already pre-decided. Then, what is the point of having such a tournament? Just play IPL and pick all format teams based on IPL performances alone.

As of now my problem with BCCI is more about why they still don't have Jaiswal in main eleven, Karun Nair is not a concern right now. The eleven I would have liked: Jaiswal Gill Kohli (last chance in ODIs coz its one format he has done reasonably well) Iyer Samson Pandya Axar Rana Shami Yadav Bumrah My point is that Karun is just one of the examples. BCCI and selectors have consistently ignored domestic performers. They give folks like SKY, Patidar, KS Bharat a chance when likes of Sarfaraz, Rinku, Sai Sudarshan etc. were performing in domestic. Karun may be 33 but he's in amazing form this season. You've to give one or two of your form players a go especially when a tourney is round the corner, and you have to reward your top performers. If you're going to select a squad ignoring domestic performances, what message does it send to everyone? On top of that they apply rules selectively. Likes of Ishan, Shreyas Iyer and Samson are held to a different standard and likes of Rohit and Kohli can straight away slot into the team without any such rules applying to them. Jaiswal not getting picked is a symptom of the same disease, i.e. meritocracy doesn't exist at BCCI. Domestic cricket is a charade at the moment where no matter what you do, it doesn't have a bearing on your intl selection or future.

It looks like backing is based on marketability rather than ability/performance. Yup, you have to check certain boxes for you to get on the right side. And when you're there, performances are optional. Gill is awarded VC of ODI team and he hasn't done anything to deserve it. Absolutely non-sensical and pathetic when someone like Jaiswal is not even certain of making the playing XI.
vvvslaxman Posted January 19, 2025 Posted January 19, 2025 Advantages of bench strength is to put pressure on current players. But BCCI just doesn't care. THey just pick the side that played the most recent match. That recent match may be 2 years ago. India despite having IPL performers always picked the same side for years until the three clowns retired. Now they are picking a side on merit. We can see the results. Ultimate_Game 1

Difference between our T20 side and Test/ODI team is drastic. We saw it as well when the Test team played under Bumrah.

Do not think these are proper bench strength player that ind selected in past 3/4 yrs. Consider them more like back-up pair of glasses, where you have 1 good pair and a cheap one in reserve just in case good1 breaks or is forgotten somewhere you still got something to use and carry-on till the good one is fixed. None of the pacer picked were able to make in to top ind side, mukesh who played all the formats is nowhere to be seen now, he was not able to make acut in 18 member of t20wc squad. unadkat was on bench most of times why would they have a player into his late 30s sit on the bench either he should be a direct selection into playing 11 or they should not be there at all. Kept investing in low potential players like jitesh, kishan, etc, kept recycling player like avesh , khaleel without a massive improvemnt displayed at domestic level. The only real challenge has come from player like jaiswal, abhishek and axar to some extent rest or meaningless picks. jitesh still remains no.2 wkt-keeper when the no.1 keeps rotating between pant, sanju. The team has been running without any vision.

And Jaiswal will be a beast in ODIs as its the easiest format for top order batters. They get flat pitches, 2 new balls, PP overs to get in and don't need to take too many risks. If Imam can average 50 and Gill can average 58, Jaiswal would've averaged 60+.
Adamant Posted January 19, 2025 Posted January 19, 2025 Have totally lost any hope i had for Kohli after the neck sprain drama. This guy is hopeless. Hopefully BCCI drops him and launches a big PR attack against him. Why is domestic cricket beneath him?
AKane Posted January 19, 2025 Posted January 19, 2025 There is no point in domestic cricket except for iPL. That should be evident by now..... people should not even worry about internaltional cricket - yeah you do get a better IPL contract if you play for national team but.... but if you have a IPL career like Dinesh Karthick then it is good enough. That is what players should focus on - IPL. Suhaan 1
