sage Posted February 13, 2025 Posted February 13, 2025 (edited) "I deeply admire his selflessness": R Ashwin compliments Rohit Sharma for the team's sucess - Crictoday Ravichandran Ashwin praised Rohit Sharma‘s selfless approach in ODIs, highlighting his example for the team. Ashwin admired Rohit’s restrained celebration after his century in the second ODI against England in Cuttack on February 9. On his YouTube show, Ashwin noted Rohit’s focus on the bigger picture ahead of the Champions Trophy. Rohit’s 119 off 90 balls helped India chase 305, ending a year-long century drought and reflecting his aggressive style from the 2023 ODI and 2024 T20 World Cups. “One trait of Rohit that I deeply admire is his selflessness. He is genuinely selfless. If you’re driven by selfishness, it would be hard to play freely and with aggression. Rohit, on numerous occasions, hasn’t focused on personal milestones, yet he still scores big. I have immense respect for him for that. It’s inspiring to see him approach it with the mindset that it’s business as usual. Even when he scores runs, his focus remains on the bigger picture. He often emphasizes that while his form is good, there are others who deserve recognition and encouragement as well,” Ashwin shared. “What’s remarkable is that we need to move beyond the glorification of superstardom and celebrity culture. For the future generation, it’s important to normalize this. We are cricketers, not actors or superstars. We are athletes, and we should connect with ordinary people,” Ashwin added, praising Rohit for his understated celebrations and calm reactions after matches. “”The game is evolving, and we must recognize that cricket is bigger than any individual player. Rohit has set an excellent example in this regard. In Indian cricket, there’s often a lot of emphasis on personal stats like averages, staying not out, or securing a spot in the team. But from the start, we’ve worn the jersey with pride, playing for our country”. Ashwin concluded by saying, ‘Rohit is playing with that same spirit and setting the example.. Gollum Posted February 13, 2025 Posted February 13, 2025 When Rohit's PR thing blew up (Vidya Balan, Farhan Akhtar posting the same message), didn't Ashwin like one of the tweets which made fun of that?
Ultimate_Game Posted February 13, 2025 Posted February 13, 2025 (edited) Yup, such "selflessness" of continuing to be the captain without performances and losing to all and sundry. Selfless for being the first captain to be whitewashed at home and the first captain to lose to NZ at home and still continuing. Bar raising "selflessness" for showing up in Aus despite the team doing well under Bumrah, and undermining the team resulting in us losing BGT. Height of "selflessness" by giving a PR interview in the middle of a phucking Test when your team is trying to compete pitching yourself as the captain - never seen such an example of selflessness in that surreal interview during the final Test when even Aussies commies were in disbelief and trying their best not to laugh. Hats off for his "selflessness" for keeping our best batter in Jaiswal on the bench so the "selfless" captain can continue to play and fail instead of giving the deserving youngster a go. Who needs selfish people when you've such a "selfless" leader under the helm Edited February 14, 2025 by Ultimate_Game saransh, Gollum, New guy and 3 others 5 1
vvvslaxman Posted February 13, 2025 Posted February 13, 2025 He has one or two positive qualities. Ashwin just highlights them. That doesn't mean he has no negative qualities lol Ashwin is a bigger cricket fan than us. But he cannot say it openly.
vishalvirsingh Posted February 16, 2025 Posted February 16, 2025 Rohit is a rockstar....Hats off Skipper. after a dull form, he came back and scored 119 runs of 90 balls- became MOM and literally destroyed the opposition. Norman and Lord 2
Gollum Posted February 16, 2025 Posted February 16, 2025 Ashwin tears Into Duckett, Stokes and England: 'They blame everything but their cricket' “Ben Duckett has said similar things in the past too, saying Yashasvi Jaiswal has learnt playing aggressive cricket from England’s bazball style. I know Ben Duckett and his penchant for humour.. but this was no joke and it is like you are hiding your failures behind a humour. “Your 2023 ODI WC were pretty bad as well. It isn’t like they are in a bad form over 2-3 months. It has been the case for four years now. Despite having such a talented group they are not able to justify their potential.” Ashwin then took the case of Ben Stokes and questioned the recent comments made by the England Test skipper. After the Three Lions failed to make it to the World Test Championship (WTC) Final, Stokes had claimed that he does not understand how the WTC system works. “Even in Test cricket, I read somewhere a few days ago that how Ben Stokes said that he doesn’t understand the points system of the WTC,” Ashwin said. “My only advice to him is that if you don’t understand the points system, then first go and understand it. “This is not a joke. You give all these reasons after losing. “After coming to India, they discuss about the pitch conditions, the kind of food they receive at the hotel…. everything but cricket,” Ashwin said. rollingstoned 1

maniac Posted February 17, 2025 Posted February 17, 2025 Good from Ashwin to acknowledge this. Rohit saved Ashwin’s career. Rohit could have easily eaten his career. When Jadeja was shoved down our throats there were atleast 15-20 better red ball spinners than him but he came good. Just imagine what Ro could do ⬇️ Number 1
putrevus Posted February 19, 2025 Posted February 19, 2025 That is utternonsense, Indian team expected more than fast start from Rohit, if he was so unselfish why did he stink as an opener in so many matches. His brain fart costed India a world cup.

Cost us atleast one WC And how did Jadeja do well in Tests if there were 15-20 spinners better than him in FC
