I think it is more useful than the games they were playing against 3rd or 4th string teenagers. For the batsmen, facing Bumrah, Siraj in English conditions etc would be a much better workout.

People are just too used to even following preparation sessions via live streaming and score updates which is not happening here ( at the team's request). I don't see any issues with giving the team breathing space to try out different things without media pressure given the breathless coverage that follows the Indian cricket team on tour ( Breaking News : Indian Team reaches hotel etc)

In UK, the weather will be main factor regarding how the pitch will behave. Last Thursday was 30 degrees with clear sky in London and that's the main reason South Africa were able to bat comfortbably in 4th innings of WTC Final. It was cloudy and colder for the first two days when both teams struggled.

 

Leeds looks like will have warmish and clear weather during the First test. So should expect a Flattish pitch where 400 would be par score.

Not really. They may want to keep their strategies and plans under wraps to ensure the opposition doesn't get notice of their plans. It's not unusual for teams to keep their cards close to their chest. When England toured India they were practising in a different country !

Correct. I live further south but the forecast is warm and sunny for Leeds and pretty much the whole country during the match. They should select Kuldeep for sure.

Between Thakur and NKR, one should be picked based on if the pitch will favour batting or bowling. For first test will have warm weather around so expecting batting friendly condition in which case Shardul should get the nod as we need an extra bowler.

preparations for Eng tour depend on ground conditions, quality of opposition etc.. ECB have ensured that India will acclimatize to none of them
