Why is Sarfaraz not in the scheme of things anymore?

Serious question!!

What has he done that he is no longer in the picture.

He is our best batsman in ranji trophy for that past multiple seasons.

India is a very clannish and establishment driven country.

If you pick a fight with the establishment, they will make you pay. This is esp true in team sports starting from district level. In cricket IPL has broken the mould a bit but before the IPL the grip was vise like.

You can ignore all the democracy etc crap. That is for propoganda and consumption by the masses.

Gambhir doesn't like him

Because

1. his name is “Sarfaraz” and Gautam  is BJP member

2. Sarfaraz is phat and looks unfit

3. he can’t play fast/ short pitch bowling.

beginning to think Gambhir might be on ICF. One of The realist, coffee rules or laaloo is Gambhir in disguise  :phehe:

I think he would hv scored marginally higher than K Nair in the 1st two tests.  But would hv definitely failed in the 3rd test (which was a tricky pitch).  I hv closely watched his batting in the 3 home tests that he played against NZ last year. To me, he looked like a typical FTB with barely any footwork.   In that NZ home series,  he got one century and 5 single digit scores:laugh: Despite that century, he managed to average only 20 in the series.   You don't need a cricket expert to figure out the glaring loopholes in his technique.     My point is: K Nair is shyt.  But that does not automatically make Sarfaraz a better batsman.  In short, both of them are s**t.  And should not be in consideration.

So you are basing it on pitches which were bunsen burners. How did Fab five do in NZ in 2003 before world cup.

Sehwag used to boast about his odi 100s in NZ in 2003 but never said anything about stinking he did in test series.

There is nothing wrong with him, he is as good as any batsman in the team.

Then, who?

No one.  Our cupboard is bare.  (I am not saying we should play with 10 players).  My point is: we dont hv a replacement at No. 3.   Maybe Easwaran to be tried?

Why Eashwaran is not tried

He is with the squad for most of the test series,he is seasoned Ranji player, captain of the A team. Why Eashwaran and Sarfaraz are denied the opportunities every one from Patidar, Paddikal, Sai,Karun are preferred over them

I think it is based on batting spot. Sarfraz never played at above 5 even for Ranji Trophy.

My assessment is not purely based on home series against NZ.  Those were tough pitches, I agree.  But sarfaraz also played 3 tests (ie 6 innings) in the home test series against Eng in Jan 2024.  In those 6 innings he had decent scores in 2 innings. Got badly exposed in the remaining 4 innings against spin on pitches which weren't exactly bunsen burners.  (On those pitches, our debutant Jurel averaged 100).  Comparison with Sehwag is inappropriate IMO.  Sehwag used to be a spin basher right from the beginning.  Sarfaraz is neither spin basher nor good against pace. On top of that, his fitness level is terrible (as someone in the mid 20s).

That is on both idiots Gambhir and Agarkar. They have more power now as Gill establishes himself.

There is no way he is inferior to Sai , Paddikal and Karun. He is young and can be core member of the team for 5 plus years atleast.

Why not give Sarfaraz as many opportunities as the peerless KL and then discard him as a failure.....

The peerless KL gets 60+ tests at a batting average less than Rahane .... Sarfraz does not even get 10.

BTW I think people like Sarfaraz and in the future even that Ayush Mhatre etc should focus on the IPL. Ignore test cricket as there is too much politics in there.
