Nobody is saying he should. They are only saying that he would, give that he is VC now.

And if Sanju goes out of the opening spot, his only other chance is at 3, which means either Tilak moves to 5 or Tilak sits out. Because SKY will play at 4.

If Sanju goes out, Jitesh will play

Tilak is not going away. He is in good form. Ranked 3 in the world. Also he can bowl a bit. Samson's place is under threat. Either he has to play as a finisher or sit out. I think guys like Jaiswal should be open to become a finisher. It is better than sitting out.

The thing is if any1 wants to plays t20s they got to have multiple skills and should be able to play multiple roles and position. there is no position for accumulator or that kind of a batter

The all format bug should be removed, t20 batting is very different from a test or even an odi batting. t20 bowling is different than a test bowling.

Will there be certain roles and some special player who can do all 3 format sue there can be some but those will be special skills, Fitting a non suited player to t20 line-up creates a lot of problems in many areas.

Most teams have understood that even pak is getting grips with that, thought Ind also seeing some senses but no.

Example -- Ind batters Abhisek, GIll and Jaiswal can only open or play in top3, Gill is not a t20 batter or say Ind has better options than him.

If there was no Abhishek than jaiswal would have made sense or if Ind had a wk who can walk into the side just on batting it would have make sense. So a wk whoever that is in the current rotation has to open to maximize their ability and open-up a slot in mo or lower mo for an allrounder or a specialist.

Looks at other top teams most batter can open or play at multiple positions and are able to bowl a few overs in cases needed. Aus has wk problem same as Ind but they are hopping that inglis can come good he has power game.

SA-- Markram opens when needed can play in mo and bowls few over if needed

Aus - Marsh opens when needed can play in mo and on dodgy pitches can bowl some overs

Eng - Smith can open and plays in mo can keep wkts, And they have multiple other batters who can open or play mo --Buttler, jacks etc

NZ -Rachin opens when needed , plays mo and bowls few overs, they have other batter too

Any1 stuck in one role has be v.good and should be point of diff at that role or position. Its just batter has to be flexible

six hitting ability is important. Jaiswal hit 26 sixes in a single Test series. Shubman Gill's entire T20 career has only 22 sixes.  You can tell who can be your impact player easily. Also left handers bring in a distinct advantage in general. Also Jaiswal doesn't take too much time. Also mindset of Gill is mostly self-preservation. Most runs in an over by Gill is 20 when he took down Madhwal. That too only once when he was in prime form scoring 800 plus runs. He is not a big over guy. Shreyas Iyer has 30 runs in one over in a ODI. When you pick a player you have to asses so many qualities. How good he is against spin, mystery spin there are so many factors.

Able to hit multiple boundaries in an over is must now 16-18 runs overs are getting common. With mystery spin batter are mostly backing their hitting ability based on the data they have against that bowler. Gill is a step back. PPl just need to ask if gill is a better t20 hitter/batter than rohit who we all are saying are dated. Rohit's sr is 140 and that too will be against good sides. Gill till now has played against depleted sides and still he has 140 SR

Iyer has sorted or looks like he has sorted his issues with short ball atleast for odis but for test and t20is it gets bit different. In Odi one can pick and chose which bowlers to attack which ball to take on to and which can be left alone or negotiated, there is no such luxury in t20is can not leave a ball or try to play it out as the pressure mounts and in test the weakness will be exploited over and over again.

Example of such player who looks super agressive in other format but no so special in t20is is Duckett he plays with SR of 86 in tests but does not have same kind of impact in t20is.

Can see many comments getting carried away with iyer, yes he has been good in odis but same can not be replicated in t20is. Sure Ind should try him out he can replace rinku if his issues with sort ball are completely gone, may be try shashank he is been finishing games in ipl now for 2 seasons.

This! Almost forgot that KL version existed once

KL of 2016-17 was ahead of the curve in T20s. Should have been our opener in that home WC instead of 110 SR Rahane.

Would be a terrible decision to have Gill in the middle order

Nah, him opening or at 3, Tilak at 4.

Problem with current T20 selection is that there are many batters who are with one dimensional skill i.e. just batting .

Gill, Jaiswal, SKY, Tilak, Rinku, Iyer  -  You cannot have a balanced team of 11 with so many pure batters hence few of these have to be benched at any point. It is upon players like Jaiswal to try Wkeeping or Iyer to develop spin bowling. This will brighten their chances easily.

Would have been happy if Jaiswal was given a chance than Gill.  He was the front runner since 2024, was part of WC 24 team  pool.

Iyer has shown better game in 2025 but  before that he did not have the kind of SR likes of Tilak, Rinku Jaiswal have done in international matches..

So no need to go over board on his non selection.  It seems Iyer most probably will play Tests vs in WI in India .  So he will play at least 2  formats.

Anyway we have another 15 matches before WT20 , he will get the chances - If any of Rinku , SKY who are not firing , Iyer has the opportunity to cement his place.

Some selections look not so great individually like Dubey , Harshit  but when you look at overall team composition this looks logical.  Dubey is the back up to Hardik as medium pace all rounder in case hardik gets injured. Rana - They want a bowler who can hit a few blows at # 8 . Hence got the nod ahead of Prasidh who should have been the first choice as pace bowler.

Should have a floating lineup tbh. Dube can be the spin killer.

SKY will be gone by next year anyway I think. Then Iyer can come in.

Anna is right. Low SR players being selected sends the wrong message

May be an image of 2 people and text that says "AFGHANISTAN LA SATCRST larcas crcket OREAM11 EAM11 INDIA "" players like Shreyas Iyer and Jaiswal are rare. They don't play for themselves, they play for the team, they look at the strike rate. But if| if were Iyer or Jaiswal, next time I wouldn't take risks and play for myself, because I've to save my own place. -Ravi Ashwin"

Let them keep playing IPL , nobody is stopping them. But Iyer we have seen what he can do in T20s. Ashwin is 100% wrong here.

Playing in international cricket t20s  is totally different ball game.Iyer has played 50 T20is and has 136 SR.

Iyer even though had some success in odis still leaves too many games without finishing them.He is at best a complimentary player even in odis.

Jaiswal will have his chances.

Rinku is bowling in UPT20, every game 2-3 overa just like Kedar Jadhav.

Tilak we all know is a capable offie. Hope he works on it.

Abhishek too is a good left armer. Decent for 2 overs.

These guys give options IMO to the team.

Jaiswal should have continued bowling leg spin, I know its tougher to control but a leggie is always worth gold.

Spot on, if he has any talent as a bowler, he should keep working on it.

IPL is killing development of part time bowlers with its absurd impact rule. But that cannot be an excuse for the players to stop bowling.

In all likelihood Axar will bat at 5. Rinku at 7. Jitesh at 8.  Varun C is not going anywhere. Kuldeep may sit out. Since it is UAE they won't midn having extra seamer. If they wanted they would have replaced Rinku with Dube.
