You cannot bazball in Aussie conditions so easily. Pitches can be flat but hitting across the line against extra bounce is not always possible unless you're Viv

Depends on the pitches.  The pitches we played him on in Australia are very different from the pitches where he got hit out of the park.   We saw how English pitches were when we toured earlier this year.

Smith is a far better captain though. Managed to win a Test in India as stand in captain. 

 

If pitches are spicy, Boland will fill up the spot nicely.

Thing is Cummins' spot is impossible to fill. Balance will be lost because he also gave them more batting depth, and biggest factor was his stranglehold over Root. Now if Root has a good series (something he has never managed over there), Aussies will be in trouble.....even against us it was Root that won them them both matches and almost the 5th test, far bigger impact than the Bazballers who need a rock like him to bat around.

If pitches are as spicy as in recent past, Boland will be a handful. But if even slightly flat, he will be in trouble..Bazballers took a special liking to him in 23 Ashes, his ability to adapt or come back when under the pump is a big question mark. Their big 3 are great because they keep batsmen honest no matter the conditions, and have proved that for over a decade. 

 

In an ideal scenario, I would have liked all 4 pacers to play for them, Lyon has declined a lot and moreover on these kind of surfaces, he won't make much impact anyway.

Boland got thrashed in England.  I am seeing English experts saying once attacked he loses the plot like a typical line bowler.

Let's see though.  Brook Duckett Jamie Smith are key players

Massive blow. Boland will be less impactful in Cummins' absence. Spicy pitches likely to backfire as well. England have a very potent bowling attack in Jofra, Atkinson, Wood, Carse, Potts, and Tongue.  A 36-yr old and a 37-yr leading the Aussie bowling attack , things could go really bad.

He was good in last Ashes in Aus. Took a 5fer I think. Aus pitches give him bounce to work with.

Yes but that was a different English team.  You cannot allow line length bowlers to bowl at one spot.

 

Reckon they will go after him like in the last Ashes in England.  Only way to combat Boland is going after him.

 

He will struggle in Perth I think.   Cummins is deadly in Perth and so is Hazelwood.

James Pattinson's tryst with injuries was a big blow to Aussie cricket. He is just 35 now, and without his back giving in, he would have been in the same class as their Big 3. They have other quicks too who weren't lucky fitness-wise but Pattinson was an ATG prospect (250+ wickets at sub 25 average). Still remember the 2013 Chepauk match where on a track unsuitable for quicks, he bowled 145-150 throughout and picked a 5fer. 

 

Just goes on to show how tough genuine pace bowling (140+) is and how impatient BCCI has been in development of India's quicks. 

 

Ryan Harris was another guy who was destined to be an ATG or even GOAT but for his knee troubles. He thrived in an era of flat pitches (late 2000s to early 2010s), IMO as big a loss to the cricket world as Shane Bond.

Khawaja is saying Renshaw should open with him.

Frankly speaking that would be a good call.  Australia has no one ready for that level other than him.

 

But Archer is lethal against left handers.  Uzzie is washed up old man likely playing his final series.

 

Things could go pear shaped for Australia if England really goes for the jugular.
