Anurag is a giant of Indian cinema, way more than 2 good movies. Black Friday Dev D GOW both parts Ugly Gulaal Raman Raghav That is some stacked filmography. Even his lesser successful movies like No Smoking, Return of Hanuman were ahead of their time. Then the fact that he introduced/grromed so many young outsider talents in the industry. His collabs with RGV and Motwane...wrote or co-wrote masterpieces like Satya, Shool, Kaun, Udaan...produced some great stuff (Lootera, Queen, NH10, Masaan, Lunchbox, Udta Punjab, Trapped, Bhavesh Joshi...) when Phantom Films existed. You may hate his politics/ideology but he is an all time great of Indian cinema. I don't like Kamal Haasan's politics as well, but that won't make me diminish his craft, we must separate the art from the artist. Kashyap has been in mid-life crisis for some time now, couldn't secure funding for some of his projects, won't judge him too much based on his recent ventures. goose Posted January 4 Posted January 4 watched it a second time. not done that ever in my life! a massive reason is the soundtrack. naal nachna is so good it feels like a track thats been around for decades. lutt le gaya would not be out of place in a black coffee dj set in ibiza. the hordes of pakistani flags was like a rave. one reason i went back is on the first showing you cant fully appreciate the music coz they dont play anything in full, apart from shararat. then you go home and discover the music proper only to then wish you had the pictures to go (and my word do they go!) with it which again isnt available save for a few clips on social media. this dynamic is completely new in hindi cinema! ravishingravi and randomGuy 1 1

For me gangs of Wasseypur and black friday were his best work. And even those I can't watch the whole thing at one go. He is certainly one of our best. But then it is very mediocre industry.

Look at his body of work as director, screenwriter, story writer, producer, no wonder someone like Thelma Schoonmaker chose to work with him, she rarely works with anyone not named Scorsese. Many exciting directors I like from Malayalam/Tamil industries idolize AK. And as you said, backed many young talents, not just actors. Again, just like RGV.
