Ashok’s journey is nothing short of remarkable. A farmer’s son from the village of Rampura, he’s come up the hard way, helped by a sacrifice at home — his elder brother quit cricket because their father could afford coaching for only one sibling.

He first picked up a leather ball at the Aravali Cricket Club — the same club where he continues to train. It was founded by former Rajasthan cricketer Vivek Yadav, who became Ashok’s mentor before tragically passing away during COVID.

From borrowing gear from senior players at the club, Ashok travelled by flight for the first time after earning selection to the Rajasthan U-19 team. In 2021, Rajasthan Royals roped him in as a net bowler after his performance in the Red Bull Speedster — a talent-hunt jointly organised with Red Bull to identify fast bowlers. He continued in that role in 2023 and 2024 as well, before the franchise finally signed him in 2025.

Ashok Sharma  is now the leading wicket-taker with 16 wickets from five matches in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

With two three-fors and two four-fors already, it’s hard to believe this is only his maiden T20 season for Rajasthan.

Few more key things
1. He is not your average lean thin wiry...has a stocky build. Physique wise resembles close to Umesh Yadav.

2. Can use the bat to hit long sixes, isn't a total mug. This gives a hope that he isn't a complete liability.

3. Have seen him taking good catches in SMAT, but will reserve comments on his fielding.

Anything close to Umesh Yadav is very good in terms of being an athlete.

Those stumps fly .. I always wonder do Domestic matches have lighter stumps to make it look appealing or these terror demons always loose couple of yards of pace when they bowl international

Domestic cricket (ranji, vh,smat) still uses traditional wooden stumps and there is no much electronics underneath. No wires and electronics behind the stumps

Intnl cricket uses zinger stumps made of composite plastic  and have electronics , wight should be nearly same but the zingers sits bit deeper and behind the stumps there is some kind of electronics and wires.

Ashok Sharma was bought by Gujarat Titans for a price of Rs 90 lakhs at the IPL 2026 auction being held in Abu Dhabi.

The Rajasthan bowler will play in the IPL for the first time in his career.

I think he was in RR squad couple of years back.
