In earlier decades, US leadership was framed in terms of a liberal world order in which advancing American interests was presented as beneficial to all. The concept of a ‘benevolent hegemon’ emerged from this period. Trump’s worldview rejects this premise. Instead, it assumes that US prosperity must come at the expense of others, and that it is time to reverse the old balance.

This shift carries profound implications. A hegemon that no longer seeks to provide stability must rely more heavily on coercion. But coercion, to be effective, requires credibility. The dominant power must demonstrate clearly that it can impose its will when necessary.

Iran has become the test case.

The US has, in effect, chosen this challenge for itself. The stakes are therefore exceptionally high. A failure to achieve a decisive outcome would not simply be another setback, it would call into question America’s ability to act as a global power under the new rules it is attempting to establish.

This is what distinguishes this conflict from previous campaigns. Iraq and Afghanistan ended without clear victories, but they were fought under a different strategic paradigm. Today’s confrontation is more openly transactional, more explicitly about power projection, and less constrained by legal or ideological considerations.

This is why US must loose

How much do dems need to impeach

Cause at thid stage i think trump does not care about the house.

For conviction 2/3rd of senate (67). That’s not possible, but Trump has taken on the challenge to make it possible.

@coffee_rules' humorous post (Khamoney) in another thread prompted this question:

In Iran, we had a Khomeini.

Then Khamanei x 2 (Father/Son)

Are these just different spellings for the same last name? Like Aggarwal. Agrawal. Agarwal? Or do they represent different clans?

You forgot Mojtaba. That almost makes him half bengali

Both are different. Khomeini family migrated from India. He lived in a place named Khomeyn in Iran so kept his name as Ruhollah Khomeini. Like some belonging to Banaras calls himself banarasi.

While Khamenei is supposed to be descendant of Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Mohammed.

Yeah ... what I meant was Khamenei who was just killed is the father of the new leader.

At the top of Iran's power structure is the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who succeeded Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the father of the Iranian Revolution, upon Khomeini's death in 1989. Khomeini and Khamenei are the only two men to have held the office since the founding of the Islamic Republic in 1979.

The original guy is different. The dead guy’s son is the new leader

Yeah ... I knew that Kho and Kha were not directly related, but was wondering if Kho and Kha were from the same tribe/clan with just name spelt differently.

President also emphasised his control over the diplomatic timeline, revealing that while the Iranians requested a seven-day pause, he opted for 10. “I’m going to give you 10 because they gave me ships,” Trump said, adding, “We talked about the eight ships.”

Situation has become a Geopolitics based Reality tv drama lol.

Anyways markets aren’t appreciating this delay. Nothing beneficial / new catalyst has come out of today’s decision . There should have been something in the interim.

This slow burn is the worst case scenario.
We will be seeing some more 1-3 percent daily index drops every few days until there’s progress with the strait.

If a deal could not be reached by now, the next best strategy / off- ramp would have been to go extra aggressive in the military campaign for some extra days and then walk off signaling completion of “objectives”. After that happens, EU / ROW can resume the diplomacy n get going with the strait.

Nothing beneficial is gonna come out of this for anyone by engaging longer.
