The man who reshaped Modern Team India

Listen to the part where how Kohli and Jadeja were reluctant to listen to advice.   Like Kohli not willing to change, Jadeja not willing to slow down the ball because it is difficult for some people to go away from the routine. Kohli, Jadeja fall under that category.

Listen to Sanju part. That is fascinating listen. That confirms my suspicion.  About the height/pace difference from England players changed his batting style.  That hits the nail on the head why Sanju is struggling since England series. How come our batting coach was not aware of this?

This guy was imp. to the t20i wc but not to shape the new0i approach to the side. It was rohit and IPL specifically srh and kkr.

Both changed the outlook of how Ind and Ind players played t20 cricket. Even at t20 level be it ipl or intnl the aim of Ind batters were to score tuck load of run which may or may not be useful to the team's cause.

In top batters were occupying the spot in their respective teams and all the resources were directed towards them. They would face as many ball they want score at their own pace and hitting was left to OS players.

It changed with SRH taking punt on Ahbshek as their captain was a non Ind player and they did not have any star so they can make a proper t20 side and they did. Same thing with KKR, no big star. These teams played a kind of cricket which Ind audiences never seen before and they did on conistent basis so other team saw they have to catch up and play this cricket else they will be left behind.

That unlocked the team and started looking for Ind player who are tuned to play t20 cricket, hence teams started putting faith in Player like Arya, Prab, Jaiswal, Vaibhav.

So in sense Ind stars were made dated.

As for T20i wc Ind won, it was a poor t20 side. The only match winner was bhumrah and any t20 batter was sky with his bat ICC record.

They planned to open with Kolhi and Rohit both are same kind of players, so rohit had to take the initiative to go after bowling, be it a small inning or a big one he had to go from ball #1.

This data guy worked hard to work with such a low potential team, he may have run the simulations to maximize each a every player and play per the conditions and try batters who can cover up each other's short coming and which bowler to player to play which game based on various envmt, data, ground conditions and the opp.

Captain like Rohit is open to such thing and have been working with MI so he was not exactly new and understood how use such data.

This guy may have worked hours and hours to work with such limited side to win a v.small but significant moment of the game

I would give huge credit to PUnjab. 4 punjabii guys took room and worked with Yuvraj. That year the entire Punjab team became a six hitting monsterous unit in SMAT. They went on to win the title. Abhi had hit 40 sixes in that season.

......GIll, Abhishek Sharma, Anmolpreet Singh and Prabhsimran singh spent five weeks with Yuvraj  and those training sessions changed their approach towards the game.........

If you look at this you will find Abhishek, Anmolpreet, Prabshimran in the list with a lot of sixes.   OnlY Parag had more sixes than Abhishek in that season. That is where everything started. It kinda coincided with Rohit's change in power play approach. Rohit started even in 2023 world cup. It kinda inspired a lot of people even in domestic.

Himanish Ganjoo is also a theoretical cosmologist. Did his PhD under the guidance of Katherine Mack, if you go further back, lineage of Feynman. He was associated with Perimeter institute which is impressive, pretty sure all this cricket analysis is just a side gig for him. In my free time, I love exploring astronomy related papers and listening to their talks, prefer observational astro (trying to replicate some of their data interpretation techniques in my work) more than theoretical ones which is Ganjoo's speciality.

We work in totally different fields but somehow have some common friends, because of BITSAA. Guy is a trendsetter, more power to him. May a tribe of sports analysts emerge, we need to have a US like approach where we reduce all sports to exact science.

He briefly touched on how many analysts each baseball teams have. We need a forward thinking coach.

Since T20 , teams have started using data, and its getting more and more relevance now. every team is set-up around the data.

IPl team are structured on what data says, outside super-stars it all data-driven.  Data is for tactical advantage that it, 1-2 good balls here and there can change the shape of the game. Some captains and coaches are more receptive to it some are not that much but everyone is using data. That's why we are seeing new players comes and perform and after sometime they fade because teams now have data on on them.

But test and to large part odis it remains the same, because 1-2 balls are not going to change the game , it can not be short term tactics but has to be strategic.

there can be a batter who does not have all the shorts can still be good at test and odis, there is still a place for an specialist off-spinner in the test side.

A player like tim david is more useful in t20 than some1 like Williamson

Dravid was radical fromthe beginning  wow. Interesting to hear. Rohit definitely changed the basic culture of the team. More than the cup that is probably goign to be his legacy.

He is making cricket data analysts as rare entities who are undervalued / underpaid.

Don’t IPL teams have armies of data analysts ?

They do. I think Andy FLower is a data guy.

This is problem. BCCI should made such people sign NDA about what they dug. Openly talking about weakness of ur best t20 bat or skipper when they are still in their career is stupidity of highest order
