Rohit may retire as he is not at his peak mainly bcos he is not as fit as Kohli.

bcos kohli has changed his eating habits cutting down what ever his doctors have ad. BOOM & Harshit rana are going to lead the attack with Mayank Yadav as support and siraj on bench. Some other pacer all rounder ( not dubey or hardik) will play. aquib swing bowler from Jammu could also come ahead.

tilak , sanju, ishan, abhishek will fight out with few other batters . spinners - jaddu may play

What India needs to do is bring a left hand opener (Jaiswal)

A left hand middle order player or someone who plays both pace and spin well.

Ruturaj vs Tilak

Iyer needs to be monitored, I like the guy but he plays only one format.  Harder to gauge his form and if he is past it.  Can be dumped if it's bad.

Sanju vs Kela will be debate after Sanju's heroics.  Sanju is excellent hitter of spin and pace and he can cause some serious damage in high scoring Saffer grounds especially Centurion and Joburg.

A high pace option from IPL.  Bumrah Siraj (maybe) Rana and perhaps Mayank Y or Ashok if they light up the IPL

@Nikhil_cric

These are all valid. But let's see if they play 6 batsmen first in this format instead of the typical Washi at #6, Jadeja at #7 crap.

That's more important imo.

Our T20 fortunes improved massively when we started playing the extra batsman.

Until that happens, there's no point even considering this team for the World Cup

It will be difficult to play 5 batters plus dubey hardik and axar.

World cup is in Sa and you hv to extract 20 overs from these 3 which is not good

In T20 they think that 250  is a good score (which it is).

But in ODIs they think that 280 is a good score?

In ODIs, a good score is 320+ these days

Nope. What worked for us is 8 batters as our bowlers can't even hold the bat. Likes of Siraj, Bumrah, Varun C, Kuldeep, Arshdeep can't score 10 runs combined and that's why we need batting till 8.

And so far hostory has proven that batting depth trumps deeper bowling in LOI tournaments. The teams which have won tourneys are the ones which bat very deep even when their bowling is slightly on the lighter side. Look at our LOI teams WC 2023 onwards which won 2 WT20s and CT - they batted till 8. Look at the champion Aussie teams. They had batting till 7or 8 and then they had bowlers like Andy Bichel who could bat as well. Or the past Indian teams who won tourneys - in 2011 we had Raina batting at 7 with Harbhajan and Zaheer coming in next who could both hit the ball. Or our 1983 team which had a bunch of all-rounders in Kapil, Mohinder Amarnath, Madan Lal, Roger Binny with wk-batter Kirmani coming in at 10!

Every time we went with 4 or more specialist bowlers, we struggled. Look no further than Kohli's teams where we had a lost decade and couldn't win anything due to longish tail. Under pressure and at the crunch, deeper batting adds much more value than a deeper bowling does.

Our odi side is quite different.

and the WC is in South Africa where we rarely win much of consequence.

there's no real basis for this call

Ya. Shami has left a massive void. On-demand wicket taker. He is irreplaceble. Did well in Australia, England, India.

Yes I think we can play Parag/Axar/Pandya at 6/7/8.

Thing is we also need 4 fast bowling options in SENA. So we can't pick a specialist spinner.

4 seam options are fine if we can go with one more seam all-rounder - Bumrah, pacer 2 (Harshit, Arshdeep), Pandya, seam all-rounder (biggest gap)

But if it's a seaming pitch then go with 3 specialist pace bowlers + Pandya and Axar & Parag as all-rounders. On a flattish deck we can go with 2 specialist pacers + spinner + Axar & Parag.

If Rana is bowling well, his hitting is enough to play at #8 .  If he isn't, then we will have to play Axar ahead of Kuldeep and play him at #8.

I will pick 3 proper pacers on any pitch in SENA unless it's a worn, used pitch which is unlikely.

A lot depends on how the Olympics goes. If cricket manages to capture the world's attention, if it produces a great contest there, no stopping T20 format. Cricket is also locked for 2032 Brisbane. Just for Indian market, I think cricket is going to be a permanent affair for IOC.

We had a 20 teams tourney this time, that number may swell up in future editions. Once Olympic medals are up for grabs, more countries will show interest....as such Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, PNG have ok grassroots cricket. Cricket is also one of the fastest growing sports in Japan.

I can think of the example of France. They had no field hockey culture, but started investing in the sport for Paris Olympics. They started pouring in resources in the sport some 10-15 years back, and today are the most improved team, world #10 now. They also made semis in last 2 junior WCs. Somethng similar with Belgium, they were a non-entity before early 2000s but have become one of the greatest teams in last 10 years. Couple of years back I read an article which claimed that private universities in Belgium see more participation in field hockey compared to football.

 Hypothetically makes sense,

But cricket is an expensive sport especially at grassroots- and till we dont get indigenous people in US, Canada and Western Europe wanting to play cricket ( those are the people that can afford grassroots, then the growth will still be slow. African teams you mentioned wont magically have the money to invest in their grassroot if India wins the LA gold. Its like US winning gold in Baseball ( when a small number of countries even  play it) wont generate interest elsewhere.

we just got beat by Kiwi B team, our Odi setup needs a similar revolution like our T20 team but we cant do it with Rohit and Kohli in the team-there is no reason why we cant bat more aggressively in Odis especially on flat wickets.
